I was quite concerned when I read some of these negative reviews. Now I'm just confused. We arrived 20 min. early & were shown to our room immediately. We are a group of 6 all with very different tastes. I'm not exaggerating when I say each of us LOVED everything we ordered. And collectively we have eaten in many nice restaurants so we are not easily impressed. I went to Wildcraft to view a room one of our teachers suggested we reserve. It was beautiful - downstairs with comfy leather couch, chairs, coffee table, dining room table for 6. Perfect for our group, & a curtain could be drawn for privacy. It was beautifully set up when we arrived. Everyone looking after us was extremely attentive, wanting to ensure we had everything we wanted without making us feel like they were hovering. When they saw our cameras, they offered to take pictures so everyone was included. Imagine our surprise when our server arrived with a tray of 6 complimentary glasses of champagne because she knew if was a celebratory evening. If you want a wonderful server, ask for Brie - she was simply the best. Everything was served in a timely manner - we were never made to feel rushed, nor did we feel we waited too long for anything. We had difficulty deciding how best to allocate money from a gift card given to our group - Brie said it would be no problem to simply subtract a set amount from each bill - extremely accomodating. With no exception, everyone LOVED their food. Although $16.95 is pricey for 5 scallops, they were as good as what I enjoy at Joe's(5 star) in Vegas every yr. - well worth it. The "Beef & Blue" bacon wrapped tenderloin was one of the best I've ever had. Often when I order blue I have to return it because it's overdone - it was perfect. The 3 shrimp on my friend's plate were the size of your fist & they were fabulous - not tough or stringy like shrimp can be when they're that large. Friends told us not to leave without ordering the cheesecake - definitely worth it. As many of these reviews state, the washroom is lovely. The only thing I would change is the music volume. Having said that, I cannot wait to go back. It's not an inexpensive restaurant, but what good restaurant is - it's worth every cent.
I went to Wildcraft twice. first time, the waiter was very nice, but it took forever for the food to come to our table. The food was below average, the priced did not reflect the quality. The Stilton Flat bread were the only tasty thing we got. Second time we went, the waiter was very rude, and the food was below-below average. The smoked tomato soup tasted like tomato paste straight out of a tin can with BBQ sauce on top and the stir fry was a nightmare: placed in an inappropriate egg like small plate, the rice was saggy, the veggies were not varied (just some cabbage and carrot and sprouts) and the sauce tasted too salty, plain soy... I will not go there again, in spite of the clear need of better restaurants in the KW area.
How long could it possibly take to make chicken and fettuccini? We waited for 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Had we known that it was going to take this long, we most certianly would have accepted the second basket of bread to tie us over! We received no explanation for this lapse in time from our server, nor did we receive any form of any apology. The meals were lacking in every way possible - not at all what you would expect for $20 entrees. My husband finished only 1/4 of his pasta dish. When our server asked us if we would like the leftovers packed up, my husband declined, and yet our server didn't think it necessary to ask him why he had barely touched his meal, etc. Despite the aforementioned issues, we couldn't resist dessert. The dessert platter offered up creme brulee, chocolate caramel pie and white chocolate cheesecake. The selections were nice but the serving sizes were tiny for a $15 dessert. Overall, nice atmosphere, beautiful bathrooms, terrible customer service and food that lacked in quality...not nearly enough to bring us back again. Highly disappointing considering Wildcraft's sister restaurants are some of our favourites.
The Wildcraft Salad was nice, although not something I'd write home about. The Wild Mushroom Chicken Scallopini was tasty, but there sure weren't very any mushrooms, and those that were there didn't seem to be particularly wild. Maybe they were just chopped up so fine I couldn't tell anymore, or maybe they were just over cooked. Anyway, a bit disappointing from that regard.
All i have to say is the soup's at wildcraft are the best in town. Had a chipotle chowder with charred corn, smoked bacon and sweet potatoes today and it was heaven in a bowl. Sooo sweet, spicys and smokey. Keep it up.
