    Perfection

My wife and I ate at La Piazza last week when we were in Ottawa and enjoyed it so much that it will now be in our rotation of restaurants whenever we make future visits to Ottawa. The wine list has a wide range of options, but the best part is that the descriptions of the various wines were right on target (at least the ones we tried). Some of the descriptions suggested pairings, while others were more descriptive of the wine itself. While many may consider this to be a minor part of the meal, the bread that they served was tremendous. It took a concerted effort not to fill up on the bread before our entrees arrived. As far as the entrees were concerned, the handmade pastas made us feel like we were in Italy and the meatballs were delicious. There is again a nice selection of so many different types of entrees that i would imagine that there is something for everyone. Our waiter was superb - very friendly and helped us narrow down what we wanted to order (because so many things sounded so good). We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the patio and can't wait to enjoy a beautiful evening there again.

    Perfect date night

Located off the main street in Manotick this restaurant has been there for a few years but in my opinion gets better with each visit. We had an early dinner date and with the dining room gradually filling did not notice the crowd that was evident as we left. The service is efficient but unobtrusive and the wait staff very experienced. Our cocktails a martini and a gibson were prefectly chilled and made with the gin we selected and adequately garnished. The antipasto platter was a beautiful presentation and delicious. My wife enjoyed the grilled Salmon, while I enjoyed the Veal Saltimbocca. For our sweet treat we enjoyed the Lemon Cake. The wine list is extensive but we had champagne before coming so cocktails were it. My wife commented as we left that it was a perfect date night, what more needs to be said.

    Always great

We frequent La Piazza on a fairly regular basis, we always thoroughly enjoy both the food and the ambience. They have the most beautiful patio in Manotick, quite possibly in Ottawa. On the weekend they have some great bands, sometimes it's a little loud but live bands usually are. The restaurant owners are always very generous and usually end up sending over a liqueur or joining us for a glass of wine. Now for the most important piece, the food! The food is incredible, the rack of lamb is the best anywhere - always perfectly rare and beautifully seasoned and presented. The pastas are all homemade and incredibly tender, the sauces are delicious, fresh herbs and spices. We'll keep coming back time and time again.

    Horrific!

The food was great but... We have eaten at La Piazza twice for lunch and enjoyed the ambiance but experienced problems each time. We keep going back because we want to like it. We returned last evening for dinner with two guests. The evening was horrible! Despite having made a reservation on the patio we stood waiting for 10 minutes while they tried to figure out where to seat us. Our guests were 87 and 73 years of age... We were finally invited to have a seat at the bar inside by a hospitable younger host but the bar stools were too high for our elderly guests so we sat down to wait at a table. At our insistance, we were given complimentary glasses of wine. After another 15 minutes, our table on the patio was "ready" - except it was lacking side dishes, napkins and cutlery. There was a live band playing on the outoor stage. They were quite good but the volume was much too high for "dinner music", drowning out conversation. Our waiter brought cutlery, napkins and side dishes and took our appetizer order and entree orders together. The bruschetta we ordered took over 25 minutes and only came after I went inside to ask about it. It was not even properly prepared, in that it consisted of a plate with 7 small pieces of bread, and a small bowl with only 4 slices of cheese and the chopped tomato - DIY. Our entrees took another hour but tasted very good. The waiter said he would be right back with the parmesan and pepper. After a several minute wait, my partner asked the passing waiter and he continued on without acknowledging her request. I had to ask another staff member who did respond promptly. Throughout the evening, the owner (Frank?) wandered about, drink in hand, mixing with the patrons as he is should do, however as the evening wore on, he seemed drunk and began yelping loudly and clapping to the music - quite a distraction for his guests. The restaurant seemed understaffed and he should have been managing and helping them rather than treating it like his own private party. My partner and our guests couldn't handle the annoyance any longer and left as soon as they had finished their entrees. I signaled for the cheque and the waiter brought it and watched over my shoulder as I entered the tip %. He had the audacity to question me on it! The final straw was when three of the other patrons, friends of the owner, we're having a cigarette on the sidewalk and harassed my partner by ogling her and trying to get her attention as she left. All in all, the worst evening I have ever experienced.

    Wonderful dining

Your first impression at La Piazza is a cozy, upscale restaurant. beautiful stone floors highlight a delightful decor but the food is the star here! Our group of 3 ordered entrees and salads and each was served beautifully and tasted delicious. The salads were fresh and and the entrees were 5-star. My Gnocchi tasted like a meal you would be served on the Amalfi Coast. The mussels were equally great. Service was perfect here and the prices were reasonable considering the food, service and location. I give this place 5 stars!
