This place has all the trappings and faux opulence of the high american gothic take on French courtly dining ritual. The menu seems scattered, as though they're trying to recreate the most well known dishes from the standard room-service menus of the great hotels of old Europe. Tableside prep adds to the illusion of division between the eating and the serving class. Great if you want to impress your date by making a waiter feel small. Has become a local institution and so they do the dishes the do very well, but the whole undertaking feels a little to false, too chummy and self-satisfied. Onion soup was good, and the staff do act like they really care about the dining experience.
I love this place. The perfect mix of classy but not overly stuffy or pretentious. The House Salad is incredible. Don't know what's in the dressing but I wish I could buy it. Jack is a legend and a key part of the experience. The world could use a lot more people like Jack
This place is outstanding. Not cheap.... but worth every penny. We were getting tired of the same old restaurant chains with newbie help and formula food, so we went to Michael's On The Thames hoping for a more upscale experience. We weren't disappointed. From the very attentive service to the Chateaubriand-for-two, this place has an approach to fine dining that's all but disappeared. I was blown away by the table-side prep of an unbelievably tasty Caesar salad. And they had pianist no less! One of our biggest pet peeves is noise levels that pretty much rule out conversation. I don’t know if it’s the glass and chrome of so many places –speaking of which, we were recently put off by the din at the incredibly pricey Scaramouch in Toronto– but all that racket makes the evening a chore. Not at this place. I don't know who Michael is but hats off to him. A great evening. Thanks!
was a nice place to treat you and significant other to! we had a great time here with live piano and great service. the owner came to our table as he did with every table i noticed. the meal was perfectly cooked and garnished. i thought the bottles of wine were a bit pricey but the house wine was very good. the waitress was helpful and funny witch was nice. definitely my new favorite place to go i use to be a la casa kinda person but this evening changed my mind what a jem!
Just love the Chicken Crepe they got. They always provide great service either they are busy or not. I can't tell you much about their food other than the chicken crepe (I tried marinated beef steak once, but didn't like it because I never like aged beef; didn't know why i ordered it to begin with) because that's the dish I ordered every time I go there. I also tried calamari once, the squid they chose had too much moisture and thus the calamari was soft and the batter was coming apart from the squid. Their price is very affordable. I also like their atmosphere, very quiet and old style. Especially enjoy the piano time (although the server could have seated us in the room closer to the piano, but they were busy, who to blame?!) Their dessert is alright. Good but not out standing. I will definitely return, because I dream of myself eating their chicken crepe.
