Pasta Casareccia is an Italian restaurant and fine grocery store in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce with a beautiful family story. Founded in 1985 by Pina and her sister Angela, the place was a great success and was expanded in 1998. "The whole family was involved," says the current owner, Mauro Petraccone, who was just a youngster when it all began.
Mauro and his brother Fabio have always loved food. Mauro still vividly remembers the family kitchen, which was always busy and filled with intriguing smells and tastes. The chef was only 12 years old when the family opened Pasta Casareccia, which at first was a shop where you could get a variety of olive oils, pasta and sauces. Mauro grew up in that environment and started working there at a young age. Following studies in management and several different positions working at hotels and restaurants, the two brothers joined their parents in the restaurant.
Good "home-made" pasta in a neighbor restaurant with lots of character. Highly recommend their red pesto sauce. It's the best in town. However, the sauces are sometimes on the salty side. It would be nice if the chef can be less generous with the sodium.
We enjoyed some delicious homemade italian fare at pasta casareccia's. Good home made pasta and marinated vegetables. A large selection of olive oils and vintagers. Of course had to have some Cannolis for dessert.
Longtime Montreal restaurateur Dave McMillan knows the city's food scene like few others. We asked him for his top lunch picks and he came back with this great list that will have you covered the next time a friend or colleague asks, "Where should we go for lunch?"
