Last week I took my staff under the raccomendation of one of my collegues. As soon as we arrived the place reminded me of a trip to the amalfi coast of Italy. It brought back a lot of pleasant memories. The food was exquisite and tre serving staff was friendly and professional. Thanks for the great evening.
We bought a Groupon for this restaurant prior to reviewing the reviews. We went anyway giving the restaurant the benefit of doubt. Arrived earlier than reservation. They seated us willingly, but a bit haphazardly, The patio was busy and noisy. The restaurant inside had no airconditioning on the hotest day of the year - we opted for heat rather than noise. Service was inattentive, menu was limited. The prices were through the roof - very comparable to prices at a downtown TO 5-star restaurant. We're still giving the restaurant the benefit of doubt. My husband had the caesar salad and rack of lamb, I had the grilled calamari (which actually came deep-fried) and the gnocchi. The lamb was very tasty, but portions were small and the side of pasta in red sauce very bland. At $34.95 the plate was very overpriced. The Caesar salad, simply romaine, croutons and a heavy handed oily/heavily garliced dressing (no bacon, no parmesan of any kind, etc.), while somewhat tasty, at $8.95 was not worth the price. The calamari were tasty, but again not grilled as the menu indicated. The gnocchi was a sufficient portion but gummy and contained very little portabello or any other item - the gorgonzola/rose sauce was definitely not that. We also had a ginger ale at $3.00 (after trying to get a diet cola 2x that wasn't flat - they indicated it was 'our taste-buds' and the cola did have a few bubbles - IT WAS FLAT - two tries later, it was still FLAT). We also had a draft each of their Bavaria draft beer - small pints at $7.50 each - again overpriced. We did not stay for dessert or coffee - we were melting from the heat/non-ac at this point and decided to stop into the Marble Slab in Aurora on the way home to have our dessert there. Overall, the groupon was a waste of $25.00 - they have jacked their prices to incorporate this cost into the meals. Pity anyone who doesn't have the Groupon to cut their final bill. Would we try this restaurant again and give them another chance? Not in your life - wish we had taken the reviews seriously. Hope you do this with ours.
We had a Groupon for La Grotta and we were excited to have dinner there. Even with $25 off, the food was still overpriced. The gnocci tasted stale, my veal marsala was not tasty. I did not mind the small servings, but I do expect a better meal. The ambiance is outdated with fake fruit and fake flowers gracing every wall. I will say that the service is outstanding. The owner and our server were excellent. They were funny, likeable and endearing. If they reduce their entrees by 50% (like how it was 8 years ago), we'll go back there. If they're going to hike up the prices of food, the food actually has to be better!
Last night after work me and my colleagues went to La grotta restaurant to celebrate my birthday. As soon as we got there we were greated very friendly and sat promptly. The restaurant was busy and had a good vibe. The servers were very professional. It was a pleasure to see them working in harmony all together. We ordered a bottle of amaroni wine and also ordered a mixture of dishes so that we could share. We also had a couple of modifications which they gladly accommodated. We were there for over 2 hours and the place got really busy. Some people were being turned away. The restaurant was very cozy and I am thinking of booking a family function there. The food was very fresh and tasty and their portion sizes were good. My friend took some of the fettuccine home because she couldn't finish it. At the end they sang a birthday song for me and the whole restaurant sang along. Really enjoyable evening.
Found the portions to be very small for the price. Food tasted OK but we were wondering all along if they served smaller portions because we had a coupon that was purchased online. The Veal Marsala was small and probably the worst I have ever tasted. The Surf and Turf consisted of a very, very small portion of steak and one shrimp, along with a couple of veggies. Wine was good at 7.50 a glass ( not a bad price for Valpolicella )
