Husband and wife team Steve Marr and Lisa Kitagawa own and operate The Jason George, a stylish and spacious pub and restaurant just a stone’s throw from St. Lawrence Market. The couple opened the traditional-style pub in early 2000 and named it after their baby boy, Jason George Marr. A section of the pub named ‘Kate’s Corner’ is dedicated to their daughter. Steve and Lisa themselves are constant amiable presences at the Front Street East hotspot.
The heritage-listed establishment was expanded in 2009 and now boasts an impressive 3300 square feet. The building was reportedly completed in the 1840s, the same decade as the St. Lawrence Market (1845), but much earlier than the nearby Gooderham Building (1892). Steve and Lisa have over 25 years of valuable experience in the hospitality industry and love welcoming customers into their relaxed and moodily lit Old Town haven.
“The Jason George is different from other pubs in the area,” Steve, a former professional hockey player in Europe, says. “We are a mom-and-pop shop, we don’t have the usual pub décor, we have a diverse range of beers, we have a great old building, and we serve only home-cooked food.”
