Good food and cold Pints. The only thing is do not go there on a Sunday with your kids to watch football. There is a large group of men that swear and drink so be aware of those guys and cover your ears.

Great bars in the Beaches for a beer

Great bars in the Beaches for a beer

Having a Firkin good time is all but a done deal, whether you hang out on their patio or take a booth inside. It’s got a stereotypical decor modeled on the idea of what North Americans think British pubs should look like, and the effect mostly succeeds. There’s a late night menu for odd-hour cravings, but you’ll want to arrive earlier to enjoy their happy hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Sunny patios in the Beaches for morning, noon and night

Sunny patios in the Beaches for morning, noon and night

The Gull and Firkin patio overlooks Queen Street East so there’s that lively buzz, but it’s slightly elevated from street level so there’s no need to get too friendly with passersby. The hearty menu includes a daily Bevvy and Bites option, which is kind on the wallet, and more than 15 beers on tap. This pub is the real deal, and part of it is outdoors under the midday sun and the summer evening sky. Heaven!
