Fireside Deli & Family Restaurant

We came for our reservation on time and there were people still sitting at our table and they sat there for 30 minutes talking when they had already gotten their bill. The staff did not say anything to them and we finally got our table half an hour later when they decided to leave.

service has gone down hill food portions have shrunk while prices have risen. not to mention the quality has dropped using pre cooked bacon from the microwave.

Poor service bland cold food

After waiting over 10 minutes to be asked what we would like to drink when the restaurant had maybe 3 customers in it, the waiter spilled our drinks. Accidents happen we carry on. The waiter doesn't apologize or even wipe the spilled drinks off of our cups. We are ready to order at this point but he just walks away. Another 10-15 minutes before he returns. Still the restaurant maybe is serving 2-3 other tables. The booth we are sitting in is disgusting the floor had what appeared to be a smoothy spilled all over the floor a well as the remains of past meals. When our meal arrived it looked like it was dropped an put back on the plate. my sandwich was cut very poorly one piece an inch wide no condiments or lettuce or anything on the sandwich. The pickles on my plate looked like they had been out all day after someone already tried to eat them. when i voiced my complaints about my meal and asked for fresh pickles a new waitress came out and was very rude at which point we asked for the remainder of our disgusting meal to be bagged and to send the bill. After words we phoned the manager she said there is not much she could do now or even if we had voiced our complaint to the manager while we where still at the restaurant.

Fish and chips.. more batter than fish. Fish was tough... chips were warm and soggy. Slaw was Ok.. the beef barley soup ----salty-- if you like that. Sat in a booth. Noticed the backs around us in others were soiled.. In all this place needs a good cleaning.. I know it is well used but have no idea why... never again...music way too loud....

Great dinner

Best Prime Rib dinner i've had in ages, cooked perfectly, will definitely return for that again. Service was great and made me feel welcome and was very happy when we left

Always a Good Time!

I've gone to Fireside with friends and with my husband many times. It's one of our favourites because the portion sizes are incredible, the food comes hot and is always yummy, and we've never had a bad experience with service. It's a great place for everyone and has a good atmosphere.

never again

Oh where to start. I don't understand why people still eat here to be honest its mind boggling. My mother had an ear wig in her taco salad, my step father had plastic cooked on to the bottom of his nachos, I've had hair in my salad TWICE. The waiting staff is usually pleasant until you tell them something is wrong then they're rude and take it as a personal insult. I have yet to hear anyone say anything nice about this place until I read some reviews on here. My cousin awas a waitress here last year and she quit because the cooking staff was rude, unclean and they were constantly under paying her all these instances are on different occasions so its not like this was justy a bad day for them. I don't expect gourmet at a family restaurant but I do expect to get edible food. I've given this place too many chances. Will never go back

Bad Food

We waited 20 minutes for service, then I got my meal with a hair on it, all we got was an apology and our bill for the food. No discounts.

Update on Aftershave breakfast

My husband just arrived home,,no food,,they offered to give him two breakfasts for free,he told them no he wanted our money back and we would not be returning..strange thing is that the aftershave was on just after my husband had complained about a previous meal and then we got the breakfast with the taste of aftershave on it a few minutes later???!!! hmmm odd or not???

Great Portion, Bland

I've been here a few times already. Their portions are very generous for the price you are paying. I'm usually a big eater but out of all the times I've been there, I couldn't finish my meal due to the amount of food you are getting. The food wait was decent. It came out nice and hot. The fries and burgers were OK, they were not the greatest or worst. I did not enjoy the vegetables though. It did not taste fresh and very similar to frozen vegetables you would find at your local grocery store. Overall, the food quality feels like it's slowly degrading but tolerable so I would still visit this restaurant in the future.

Family Friendly

Family friendly. Not expensive, good service and good food. Portions are huge. Love when there's leftovers for next day. Breakfasts are good too. Will go back!

Lots of bland food.

We went for dinner as we have been for Breakfast and it was okay. The food was very bland and flavorless.It really just seemed to be lacking something. The portions were big but this isn't Man vs. Food I would prefer smaller portions and better quality.

Pretty average

This place seems similar to other casual sit-down places in the KW area. I've visited Fireside four times now. The food was decent if you're looking for just a nice casual place to have a meal. Definitely family friendly. The only problem that I've personally encountered was the staff. A few times I have noticed that the staff are either grumpy, trying to rush you through your meal, or never come around to check up on how your meal is going. Drinks being refilled also seemed to be too much of a hassel for them. However, the pretty good food with huge portions for a good price will keep me coming back. Also, the Fireside beer that the waitress recommended is very very watery and not at all flavourful. Just and FYI :)

Expectations

There were enough good reviews on this site to make me want to take the family here for breakfast. I was totally disappointed, however. The omelet I had was just some beaten eggs with razor thin bits of mushroom and a meager portion of cheese that I think was processed (or at least as close to processed as you can get), not light or fluffy at all. The sausages were cold and expensive. My wife's pancakes were just plain nasty and her eggs were runny when she asked for them to be "over medium." Neither one of us ate more than a forkful of the hard greasy hashbrowns. It was a beautiful sunny day and all the blinds were shut, making for a dark and dreary atmosphere. I am starting to wonder if the people in Kitchener are so used to sub-par, average fair that they would think anything is good. Sigh. Very disappointing. And we waited in line to get in. I couldn't believe it after we ate. This place is awful. I'm sorry.

Really fast takeout

Went for a Jumbo Smoked Meat Sandwich for takeout. It was ready super incredibly quickly with utensils, napkins, and extra mustard already in the bag.

Good Portion Sizes

I've always been satisfied with visits to the Fireside. The portion sizes, food, and service are usually good. When we went this morning, it was a busy Saturday a.m. but it didn't take long to be seated, and we were served coffee right away. We did have to wait a while for the food, but we were enjoying the wake-up beverage and conversation so that was okay. I had thought the eggs would be fresh, but when I saw them, I could tell they'd come out of a jug. Each egg seemed to have been scrambled separately and one was lying on top of the other. When I lifted the top one I could see that the lower one looked nasty (with a blue streak running through it - you know how some yolks have a blue edge on them when you hard-boil them? It was like that). Anyway, I didn't eat the lower egg. The egg and sausage looked greasy, so I also dabbed them off before eating them. I will probably order something else - pancakes or a waffle next time I go for breakfast here. Even though it was busy our server was attentive.

Insipid

Insipid bland breakfast. Home fries were simply grease cubes - couldn't be worse. Eggs were not prepared as ordered. One small squarelette of ooze claiming to be strawberry was included. Portions were average. Coffee was on the tipping edge of good. For a weekend breakfast, the price was high (we were billed extra for multigrain toast - surprise !!). What puzzles me, is why so many people eat breakfast at Fireside?

Not the best

I brought family from out of town specifically because I've had great experiences at Fireside in the past. This time, it was a failure. I had the Jumbo Montreal Smoked Meat and it was great, as usual. However, the Beef Au Jus that two of our guests had was inedible (tough and gristly). When this was brought to our waitress's attention, she offered to replace it with something else but we didn't have enough time (we had another commitment we had to go to but a lot of time was wasted waiting for the food). She also offered to get the manager but we felt that we didn't have the time for that either. We were hoping that we'd have something taken off the bill anyway, even a few dollars, but we were charged full rate for both. We realize that we could have complained more and gotten results but a similar issue at another restaurant the next day was dealt with easily and appropriately without any hassle.

Bad Atmosphere

My husband and i ate there for the first time on June 19th at 3pm. The food was okay, our waitress was okay but the atmosphere was horrendous! They sat us in a booth near the back of the restaurant, by the bar and on the other side in a booth one up from us was the waitresses, three to five at a time,socializing the whole time we were there, they were very loud, even so much as we could'nt talk , they were chatting up a storm, counting their tips, talking about life, one waitress even started talking about how her dog left boogies on her sliding door window, and on and on, plus there was a waitress cleaning the mirrors across from us. We were the only paying customers in there and they sat us there??? If i wasn't with my husband i would have gotten up and left. I will never go there again because of this.
