I luv this place! On a cold winters night there perfect to get delivery! Me and my family cant get enough of the curries i suggest chiken curry or butter chiken, the only thing i would change would have to be the slivers of almonds in the curry, not being a fan of nuts they get kind of soggie but there aren't many soo i dont mind them. I would defenetly go back again! Overall I would give it 4 stars :) plus if u eat in u get these cutsie little licorice-ish rainbow candies! luv it! :P
We ordered take out twice from this restaurant, different items both times and were definitely disapointed. The sauces for all of the dishes lacked spice/ flavor and were VERY runny. It was difficult to even dip it with the bread because it was sooo watery! It's unfortunate, but will never return.
I usually frequent the Bombay Cafe for the cheap, well portioned lunch special. It comes with Naan, rice, a chicken curry and two vegetable curries, oh and don't forget dessert. The meal is always served hot and fast whether it is eat in or take out. Occasionally I will treat myself to dinner, the Korma is wonderful! They have an excellent selection of breads and I am always suprised by the portion to price ratio, I always have a heavy purse and a doggy bag when leave the Bombay Cafe.
We have ordered twice from here and both times the food was outstanding. We did take-out. Would 100% recommend this place to everyone. We have had their chicken tikka, saag aloo, dal maharni, chana pindi, with nann and rice.
I've eaten at this establishment and ordered take-out many times and have never been disappointed (except for the watered down tamarind sauce). It's interesting to read the mix of reviews below. I'm a bit surprised by the comments about rudeness or what have you. The older gentleman who is usually there is the nicest, most polite and good natured man I have ever encountered... I can't imagine that behaviour from him, which leads me to wonder if perhaps most of these instances happened while his son was minding shop (as obviously was the case with the chicken/pork story below). As for my experience with the food and the restaurant... it's not much to look at when you're there, a little bit tacky and lackluster, but I find that adds to the charm of this place as a cozy little mom & pops establishment. I've always enjoyed the food, particularly the pakoras, samosas, bharta, lamb, and the aloo gobi (best in town! if you like it heavy on the ginger & turmeric, as opposed to with tomato like I've experienced at a couple other places). Anyways, I have always had a pleasurable experience and the food is very affordable. Perhaps they should hire some help and tell their son get a job elsewhere.
This is the only Indian place in Guelph where we've found batura to go with chenna. The food is proper Punjabi style and tastes as if your auntie had cooked it... very yummy and wholesome. The atmosphere is not fancy, but the classical Indian music is relaxing. The kulfi, even though a small serving, was just the right size to round off the meal; and rich with saffron and cardomon flavours. Best of all, the price is very affordable. An unpretentious very nice place to eat.
We ordered delivery from the restaurant and I have to say this is the worst Indian food I've ever had. First of all, upon placing the order the guy was very rude and disrespectful. He had no idea how to take an order in a courteous manner like normal people. The food arrived 60 minutes later and the delivery guy had no idea how to find our location. I was on the phone with him for 5 minutes trying to give him directions. That's not the first of it. The food taste awful ... I'm a big Indian fan and I eat out a lot so I know what good Indian food is. I have to say I've never had a worse meal. The mali kofta had no mali in it, it was basically like a watered down curry with too many spices. The Jalfrazi did not taste like what it was supposed to and the naan looked like something they bought from the store and heated up in the microwave. I would never order from this place again and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Guelph. The owners are wonderful hosts (very friendly) and produce some delicious food in what looks like quite a small kitchen. The location is a bit out of the way, but I've never regretted a visit to Bombay Cafe.... the portions are more than fair (I always leave full).
My Girlfriend & I have never visited a Greater Place than Bombay Cafe. This atmosphere was nice & cozy. The nice Indian Music in the back was a great add on to our meal. We had Papadums, 2 Veg Samosas & Chicken Tikka as our appetizers; the main course was rice, bhindi (okra), veg biryani, saag lamb & Chicken Curry. The spices were amazing & you had a choice on how much too add to your meal. I was such an amazing meal. Compared to other Indian Restaurants in the world this is the best one we have been to & enjoyed. Highly recommended.
I Recommend this place to all Indian Food lovers! Food was tasty, spices were just right, Well treated Customer Service was great! Overall Money well spent!
My partner and I enjoy curry and have ordered before from Bombay Cafe and last time we were not met with very friendly service but decided this time to order take out instead. We ordered the same dishes as last time and when they were delivered one of the dishes was delivered with pork instead. My partner and I have been in hospitality for over 25 years combined and he is an experienced cook. I noticed my dish was different and that the protein was not chicken. We even compared the protein to the chicken in my partner's dish which was not even similar when they were both washed off all sauces so we could get a better look. We called the restaurant, not upset at all but just figuring it was an honest mistake. We were met by a very hostile voice from the owner on the phone who insisted they could not have made a mistake and he was sending his son over to prove it. His son arrived, also very hostile and insisted it was chicken before even looking at the dish. We told him we didn't believe it was but if he insisted then we were just going to leave it alone as there was no point in arguing and just commented on how their customer service could be friendlier. He responded by saying he didn't care and didn't care if they lost our business and finished with some extremely rude remarks that I wont mention what they were. Well I am just shocked at this whole ordeal as we were never angry or hostile towards them. We will now spread the word to as many people as we can and being that we both work in hospitality and believe that every customer is valuable, we have no doubt that our friends will be just as appalled by this ordeal and continue to spread the word. Bombay Cafe needs to respect their customers and learn how to better approach misunderstandings with customers and value customer service. We will absolutely continue Indian cuisine just never again at Bombay Cafe!
Food was quite good and good prices. Portion size maybe a little skimpy on the meats. Naan was OK but not great or particularly hot. In fact, most of the meal was rather lukewarm and metal serving dishes and plates were not warmed up which would have made a big difference. Also, the decor is quite awful- bubble gum pink walls, floral bedroom drapery and with large nails, screws and hooks sticking out( nothing on them) on the walls. Even though I didn't actually see any dirt, the overall impression wasn't clean especially in the washroom with the paint wearing off near the lightswitch and door. It is also a very small place so that the kitchen is very close to the tables. Definately , not a place to bring visitors or for a special occasion but fine if you just want a simple good Indian meal.
We had a very nice meal here and the dish was severd at the temp that I orderd. Mr Singh was going to a wedding later that day ,But we did not feeled rushed. The service was good and the restaurant clean.
I vist on average of once to twice a week. They have the most amazing indian food and the greatest owners. They are so friendly and genuwine. I love this rest for its cuisine as well as for its great evironment.I definitly suggest everyone try it out.
Best restaurant i have ever tried in Guelph, that's all i gotta say!
I eat here, on average once a week; sometimes twice. It's like walking into the Singh's home kitchen. Authenticity, originality, flavour and value (price) combine to make this a true gem in the city of Guelph. Not to be missed.
I stopped in here one day before class and it was fantastic. The food was nice and spicy and I had a choice of how much of the hot stuff I could handle! Waiter was pleasant - overall relaxing yet prompt service.
Great food, cheap, and great people. We live very close and visit often. We have NEVER been disappointed.
Yum! They were very considerate of my allergies, and the lunch specials are only $7/person.
Wow, I am full! Absolutely delicious food, and for an awesome price. The dinners available start at a dinner for one for 14.95 and then there are two dinner for two one which is less expensive than the other (29.95$ and 39.95$). For the amount of food, I found this price quite reasonable. Fifteen dollars per person, yet you can help yourself to three appetizers, two main courses and one side dish as well as naan and salad. Awesome samosas! Very tender chicken. The naan was delicious in texture, however there was a odd spice in it where I would of preferred garlic :). The owner is a sweetheart! I could go on about this restaurant forever.. very small and homey. Lovelovelove it!
