After nearly 30 years as a beloved neighborhood hangout, Kits Billiards finally closed in late 2012. The early months of the following year saw the room stripped bare and rebuilt as the comfortable, well-appointed and inviting bar known as Colony.
Scrubbed wooden tables, dark leather booths, breezeblock walls, aluminum chairs and natural light: Colony is a modern bar that tips its hat to Vancouver’s history. Every weekday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, they offer $3 Whistler Lager and Granville Island Pale Ale, $4 for house wine, and regular food specials. It’s now a go-to place for locals – regardless of the time of day – with a buzzing atmosphere that reflects that.
A fairly recent addition to the Kitsilano bar scene, the Colony is a popular haunt for students as well as locals. They offer a couple of local reds and whites on tap and several wines by the glass. Savour your choice with a little entertainment throughout the week like music, live comedy and trivia nights. The Colony has happy hour from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on weeknights – so, grab an upholstered booth for comfort and order a bite to eat with your drink. How about chicken wings stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon? Such decadence!
The Colony is putting the “fun” in Sunday Funday this year with a seriously epic Super Bowl Party. Try your luck during the pre-game Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament and half-time squares – both games feature plenty of prizes, including a chance to win beer for a year courtesy of Parallel 49. Get the gang together and enjoy $18 buckets of P49 lager, or order a round of $4 cider mimosas and $4 Caesars. The Colony’s Kitsilano location is also putting on a special pig roast to keep you satiated through all the game-day action. Book ahead of time to guarantee your seat.
