“I was in this industry for many, many years in Halifax, but when I moved to BC, I didn’t have any local experience,” says Zia Arfaee. Working in construction for years, Zia would enjoy lunch at an Italian spot in Richmond. “One day I got fed up with construction, so I came in and talked with the owner,” smiles Zia, explaining how he finally returned to the industry he missed so dearly, opening Zia’s Café and Grill in 2013.
“The menu was very good, but people come here for breakfast and lunch; they don’t have time to wait for fresh cooked pasta during their lunch break. So I created a very small menu so it’s very easy to control the freshness and quality,” explains Zia, who goes to local markets every weekend to handpick his ingredients.
Proudly serving people who work in the local area their breakfast and lunch on a daily basis, Zia’s Café and Grill boasts delicious breakfast wraps, fresh pastries, paninis and sandwiches, soups and salads. “And for those who want variety, I have a daily special such as butter chicken, jambalaya, pulled pork sandwiches, meatball subs, smoked meat on rye and BBQ ribs.”
