Went for a cut and dye. The color was way darker than I asked for but it wasn't awful looking. The hair cut however was all different lengths. She cut a layer about 2 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. I am not picky with my hair but this was by far the worst haircut I've ever had. It's shocking to me that this place is still open employing hair stylists who can't even do a simple hair trim.

Great Staff...great haircare!!

I've been going here for many years now. Occasionally I try someplace else...simply because I'm out of Millwoods and it's more convenient. I've had both good and bad haircuts at other salons. I have NEVER had a bad haircut here...which is what keeps me coming back! Although I've had cuts from a few stylists here (and they were all good) my main stylist is April and she is fantastic! I'm a hairdresser's nightmare client, I'm sure...I'm not a "girly girl"...I have no real "style"...I haven't a clue about hair...I'm one of those people who go in and say "do what you think would look good". April knows that I own a brush and a blow dryer..no other hair "tools" and no "product". She always keeps this in mind and gives me a great "wash and go" look (and doesn't make it always the same so I have some nice changes and don't get in a rut). I appreciate that she never tries to "push" me into haircuts that require a lot of work from me and, although she might occasionally suggest a product, it's a very, very "soft sell" and I never feel obligated to buy or feel bad that I didn't. That's a big deal for me because I've been to salons where they give me a haircut that looks silly when I don't use a curling iron and 5 products on it and they really push the products. I like to feel comfortable in a salon and not worry about a sales pitch. Before we go on vacations I get her to give me a perm so that my fine, rather limp hair will look nice even without me doing anything with it and I've always been very happy with the results! Last year she colored my hair...for the first time in my life (I'm 50...she couldn't believe I had never done it before). She did so in a way that thrilled me...but wasn't so dramatic that I felt uncomfortable. So if you want a great salon, choose this one...but don't all ask for April...I don't want her so busy that I can't get an appointment!

Have you had a bad experience at your salon?

I booked an appointment to have my hair streaked with my hairstylist, April, at Head First Family Salon. I’ve been going to this salon for a few years now, the location is good and the atmosphere is relaxing. In the past April has used foils on me, however, this time she decided to pull my hair through a cap. I was confused and a little reluctant at first, but she put my mind at ease and said it will give the same look as using foils; and since she is the expert in her “field” I agreed. For most people going to the salon is a relaxing experience; unfortunately for me this time was one of my worst experiences ever. Previously, I have experience a few bad hair-cuts, but decided to give April another chance. However, today was the day I knew I will never rebook. At the end when she turned me around to view the final product in the mirror, to my dismay I could not believe what I was seeing. In one hour I went from an ash blond to a platinum blond; there were no defining streaks. It was at that point I felt my blood boiling inside, and as my face turned blood red anger and anxiety set in immediately; I was in such shock I paid and left. When I got home after about half an hour I calmed down. I decided to call the salon back asking to speak with April, apparently I ended up speaking with the owner, whom I did not know at the time. I told her I was unhappy with my hair colour and I wanted to have it redone. She commented and said, “Yes, I do remember you, and I was not sure what was going on when I saw the finished product”. Never the less, I had to wait 3 day for the next appointment . I came back on the Tuesday to have my hair redone, and at the end of this appointment the manager decided to “charge” me for the product they used to fix my hair. I felt, I should have not paid for her mistake; unfortunately the owner does not value good customer services, and that is why I will never go back to Head First Family salon on Millwood Road south ever again.
