My favorite restaurant in Toronto . Delicious food. Wonderful staff. Warm atmosphere A very special French touch
Let me tell you about this beautiful French restaurant located in East Chinatown (yes, that's right, there is an East Chinatown in Toronto). Batifole is delicious blend of good food and romantic atmosphere that takes you outside of Chinatown and into a bistro in France. Food: Delicous is the best way to describe the food here. The chefs prepares these dishes very well, as if to say you are his royal guests. I started with the Lobster and fish soup and my partner decided to have the escargot and a side of the fries and tarragon mayonaisse. This was a great way to start off dinner - the soup was creamy and rich in flavour, and the fries were at the right texture and perfect with the tarragon mayo. For dinner, our guest had the beef tenderloin, my partner had the foie gras, and I was feeling adventurous and decided to order the horse tartare. The horse tartare blew me away! If I could place bets on my horse, I would've won the jackpot. It was well seasoned, sweet, and without the game taste to it. Definately worth a try. Service: I think our female server may have been a bit slow at processing our order in her head, but she did ok. The male server was just as good. It was very busy on a Friday night, so we weren't expecting much. As long as my horse on a platter reached our table, that's all that mattered to me. Atmosphere. Definately worth to check out if you want to go somewhere romantic. The table beside us were celebrating their anniversary, a couple of tables were group outings, and a few singles enjoying a nice meal. A good mix of young and old, wealthy and casual. Overall, I would definately say worth a visit. The menu is well suited for those who are adventurous, or those who want to entice their taste buds with something delicious. My suggestion though is to visit during the week rather than a busy weekend night.
I never really had a proper french cuisine before but I know what good food should taste like. I loved the food at Batifole. The atmosphere of the restaurant did make me worry about the quality of the food but they surpassed my expectation. Service is average and that's fine with me, all that matters really is the food...unless the service is terrible. Definitely will visit again.
I went here last night with a good friend of mine. The food was FANTASTIC, everything we had last night was superb and the service was non-intrusive and relaxed. I couldn't ask for a more perfect meal. I would definitly suggest you try this restaurant if you have a chance.
My husband and I enjoyed the food at Batifole very much. It was a hot summer evening so the chilled Vichysoisse soup went down very well. I enjoyed the Cassoulet, but found the sausages a bit too garlicky. Otherwise it was very tasty. My husband enjoyed the steak very much. I don't like the fact that the vegetable dishes have to be ordered separately as sides a la carte. One thing is that it was Saturday night and quite busy, so I feel they need more staff because we had to wait quite a while for everything from drinks to mains to getting our bill. Still, the food was delicious. I would recommend going on a weeknight. If you're going on a weekend, you'd better not be in a hurry. Bon appetit.

Chef/Owner Pascal Geffroy’s charming restaurant on Gerrard in Chinatown East offers Mediterranean- and Provencal-focused fare, made with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Romance is always in the air, thanks to a French-only wine list, and menu selections that include Le Cassoulet Royal with duck confit, sausages and crispy pork belly; a delicate seafood stew with citrus fragrance; Duck Two Ways. Be sure to save room for dessert.
View this Smart ListBatifole is an unassuming little French restaurant in the midst of Chinatown. But don’t let the location deter you; the food is simple yet elegant, and served without the pretentiousness and high prices that some other French bistros charge.
