Montreal is well known for its vibrant restaurant scene, but for a long time it was lacking something in particular. If you ask the co-owners of Satay Brothers Matthew and Alex Winnicki, and their friends Phil Chin and Marco Villequette, the city didn’t have a lot to offer when it came to South-East Asian cuisine.
In the highly competitive restaurant industry, they wanted to carve out a niche for themselves by bringing some of their favourite dishes to the city. “It’s a family affair,” says Alex. “My mom’s from Singapore, so that’s the background. It’s all about food we grew up eating and couldn’t really find in Montreal.”
At Satay Brothers, Alex and Marco both manage the front of house duties, Matthew is the head chef, and Phil is the bar manager and sommelier. While the both have their individual roles, for the most part running Stay Brothers is a collaborative effort between all four founders.

The service was excellent (available in French and English), the steamed pork buns were to die for!! Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I'm hopeful that I can find a similar restaurant in Halifax!!
Authentic deelicious mouth-watering cuisine...awesome service...super lively atmosphere...great prices...feels like home. Thanks Satay Brothers!

They made a name for themselves at the Atwater Market, but in January 2015, brothers Alex and Matt Winnicki opened their own restaurant in Saint-Henri. So you can now have one of their delicious satays (skewered chicken, pork or shrimp) at any time, but we also go there for their unmissable fresh buns of the day and the very generous soup meals.

The two brothers, Mat and Alex – born of a Singaporean mother and a Polish father – cook several Southeast Asian specialties such as delicious satay sandwiches, pork or tofu buns, and green papaya salads.

The wine list is concise but delightfully paired with Singaporean cuisine that is as exotic as it is delicious.
