Sean Scourse was once working his way up the ranks in software sales, though his real passion was food. In his spare time he'd scour cookbooks and experiment with recipes to teach himself the ins and outs of gourmet cuisine. As his skills progressed, he began to wonder how he could turn his love of good food into a business and champion a social cause at the same time.
Inspired by TOMS, a socially profitable shoe company, an idea began to take shape. "Each time someone buys a pair of TOMS shoes, a pair is given to a child in a developing country," explains Sean. "I wanted to create that same model here at home, but around food."
Sean did just that in March of 2014, when he opened Hungry Box. This restaurant sells delicious homemade sandwiches, salads, soups, drinks and even desserts. While the fare is simple ― perfect for those on the run, and delicious too ― it's the idea behind Hungry Box that's gotten it so much attention since opening day.
