Larry Bevand is the director of the Association Échecs et Maths (Maths and Chess Association), a non-profit association created in 1985 to teach children how to play chess and allow them to develop their self-esteem and logic. To help fund the association's activities, Larry opened Boutique Stratégie.
"In 1996, the association purchased a building on Saint-Denis to organize activities for young people and run the store on the ground floor," says Larry. The same year, they opened a store in Toronto to teach chess, and a store in Ottawa followed in 2002.
Larry has always had a passion for chess; in 2001 he was inducted into the Canadian Chess Hall of Fame, and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in recognition of his involvement in the field.
