Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Food is fantastic being going here over 10 years.
Sunday afternoon delivery from el-mayor. To say terrible is being kind. We got hommus, tabouli salad, pickled veggies, 2 shawarma wraps and a shish kabob plate with fries.. the only decent thing we got was the hommus. The tabouli was wilted and awful. The pickled veggies were limp, brownish in colour and tasted nasty. The kabobs were rubbery tho we had asked meat to be Med-rare. The wraps were only ok. We paid $60.00 for basically some chickpeas and some old garbage food. Never again. Disgusted
we had a delicious dinner ,shawarma plate was excellent. the garlic dip is the best i,ve ever had.the owners and servers go out of there way to please you.great place to visit with family and friends
First - I have been noticing that a lot of reviews on this site are OUTDATED! So make sure you check the date when deciding whether to go or not.... El Mayor has been all redone and has a great, classy atmosphere. Being vegetarian, there are TONS of options and everything is always FRESH! The best time to go is in the afternoon when no one is there... One thing I have to comment on is the service. The owner is always very nice and sweet. Maybe it's just because I go there all the time, but when I pick up take-out they always throw in a piece of baklava and give me Turkish coffee if I'm waiting. The waitresses there are attentive and sweet. Definitely check this one out!!
I can not believe how amazing there food was me and my sister were Hungry so we looked them up in the book after hearing good thing well I can not tell u how much I enjoyed there food especially for food that was delivered it was amazing I will deff be ordering again and there prices are very good we ordered hummus and for 6 bucks we got a huge order and tones of pitas I was very surprised at how good it was again it was amazing deff 5 star for delivery
First time there after hearing a lot of rave reviews. I enjoyed it. There is parking available, which is nice... lots of seating and the service was fast. The food was all amazing, would go back. Too add, portions are small like most claim. My fav in the city would be Kebobgy for Middle Eastern food.
I've ordered take-out many times from this restaurant and am never disappointed. Excellent portion size, authentic food, great price, and the food tastes amazingly fresh! Tonight, however, I dined inside the restaurant..and aside from teh chairs which are a bit uncomfortable..this has to be one of the best meals i've ever had for the price. The staff is warm and cordial..the food was garden fresh, spiced properly and delicious. And after dinner, we were served delicioius arabic creme brulee and turkish coffee on the house! Great place...great service...I love this place so much that I went through all the trouble of creating a profile here just to say thanks for the great food and service.
very consistent bad experience. I live in Michigan and visit my parents with my boyfriend often. I took them out to el-mayor last year before the renovation, and felt no life in the place and the food was below average. I decided to give it a try now that the place is renovated and expanded. OMG. too red, too bright, too banquet. the food didnt seem fresh and the meat was so tough. staff were all nice and smiling when they seated us but were not helpful at all when we complained. I complained to the lady manager about the quality, she said sorry but didnt do a thing to make us happy. she was going to let the chef know, but still expected us to eat our BAD food, and still fully charged us for it.
When this place was a hole in the wall, it was the bee's knees. After the renovations it turned into all style no substance. Riding on their rep. now - but for how long?
that's right, i'd never thought in my whole life that i'd actually be grateful for the tiny portions of food! simply because it was HORRIBLE! the vegetables were anything but fresh, possibly even frozen! the meat was dry and rubbery and reminded me of horse meat i ate once in algeria! the rice was stale-tasting, and the food in general tasted like it had been refrigerated for weeks, reheated/refried (eegh..i know), and served. the service was sub-par, the waitresses were friendly enough, but in no way to compensate for the horrid food! the salads were indescribable..in a dismal way of course. the fattouche was the worse than i'd ever imagined possible, and had it been my very first time eating fattouche, i definitley would never have tried it again. chicken was cold and rubbery and overspiced, i assume to cover up the overwhelming unfreshness of it. hummus tasted like dried beans and oil, just horrible! in addition to being overpriced, the vine leaves were a disaster! the leaves were dry and chewy, in NO WAY FRESH! and soaked in olive oil. the rice inside was just repulsive, soggy, cold and mushy!! thank god the portion only included 4 of them. i love lebanese and mediterranean food, and this is a disgrace to that cuisine!
since we eat there so often. I admit that the seating is a little too out in the open. Some booths would be a nice addition and add intimacy. Still, it's one of the most consistently good places to get Lebanese food in Windsor. The wait staff are very attentive, do quality checks, and always are prompt with drink re-fills, asking if we'd like coffee or dessert after our meal. Also, we found this place by accident one night (prior to the recent renovations) when I was craving fattoush late at night. We drove around and this place was the only one we found open. When we walked in we realized from the sign that they were closing in 10 minutes, so we turned around to leave, but they were very insistent that we stay and eat, and the service was great despite our being the last table of the night. THAT is good service.
Once again this place lived up to the fantastic standards I've come to expect. Food was fresh and delicious. Takeout service is better than eat in, but both still very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes or would like to try Middle Eastern food.
best shawarma ive ever had, fresh chicken, pleasant service, nice place, the garlic sauce will stay with you for days, yummmmmmm
God I love this place -- one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Now that I no longer live in Windsor I miss it... The food is so fresh, so tasty -- it's almost wrong how much pleasure I get from going here ;) Highly recommended!
Well I am Lebanese and I know I should not be saying this. But the food is disgusting and a complete disgrace to our nation. I know many of my friends are ignorant and say "it's the best food on earth" and I agree we should stick with our country's men. However, I don't want to lie to myself and I want to see an improvement so I can bring my non-lebanese friends and show-off my country's food. The food was very DRY and it felt like it has been sitting there in the fridge for a week.
IT FELT LIKE DINING AT A BANQUET HALL. FOOD WAS REHEATED OR BADLY COOKED.. FATTOUSH SALAD WAS NOT FRESH. COMPLAINED TO THE LADY MANAGER, BUT SHE DIDNT DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE WAITRESS WAS KIND BUT DIDNT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING. NEVER AGAIN!!
everything very very good. The Kafta is excellent!!
AMAZING food, great service. i would recommend this restaurant to everyone in windsor. i'll visit this restaurant more often now.
I can't help but be a little biased because once you eat Arabic food in Dearborn, it's hard to eat it anywhere else! The service was great - our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and delicious, although the size of the chicken shawarma seemed to be a little on the small side. All in all, it's a great place to eat in Windsor and their new renovations are very nice! :) I would recommend everyone to go try it out!
This is my absolute favourite restaraunt in the city. My mom and sister come in from London and we always have to eat there. The service is fantastic and the girl that is always mindin the counter is the nicest person ever, she always gives my two young daughters free baklava when we leave. The food is fantastic and the garlic is the best in the city. Keep up all the great work, and your new digs are awesome and beautiful.
