Rod Moore lives and breathes everything tiki. Having already opened a tiki restaurant and bar in his native Vancouver, he set his sights on Toronto, convinced that the city desperately needed an authentic tiki bar of its own. After months of searching for the best location, he found an unassuming spot in Parkdale, met Alana Nogueda (who became his business partner) and went to work. It took only 60 days to transform a dull, concrete space into an exotic, Polynesian-inspired tiki paradise.
The Shameful Tiki Room opened its doors in November 2015, and has since become a popular hotspot for both locals and visitors, but you would never know by looking at the simple exterior facade that a tropical oasis resides inside.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Shameful Tiki Bar made this list. Not only are the drinks packed with flavour, but there is an entire menu dedicated to massive drinks that are made to share. The menu consists of three bowls: Mystery bowl, Voodoo bowl and the Volcano bowl, all of which have top-secret recipes. Also, you can totally ask your server to make one to take-home.
Complete with fruity drinks in coconuts and bamboo-clad interior, the Shameful Tiki Bar is just as fun as it sounds. You can order giant drinks to share, or indulge in the unique Polynesian menu.
Decking out its West Queen West location with red lights, bamboo, wicker, totems and vintage fixtures, Shameful Tiki Room serves exotic cocktails to thirsty Torontonians in need of a tropical fix. This dark haunt is an accurate recreation of the original 1950s tiki experience, and cocktail and history buffs will love its playful commitment to the real thing. With Hurricanes, Mai Tais and Singapore Slings, Shameful Tiki Room one-ups history with new cocktails like the Chi-chi vodka Pina Colada with coconut cream and fresh pineapple juice. Late night snacks are deliciously on theme with tacos and pork patty sliders topped with pineapple and BBQ sauce.
