The Parkdale Prana Room is a sliver of golden cedar slid between an independent jeweler and a hipster vintage shop.
This body and mind therapy and practice space is a little ray of light in Parkdale and – just like the mindfulness meditation that happens inside it’s walls – if you don’t slow down and pay close attention, you might miss it. Opened in 2009 by Simone Moir, the Parkdale Prana Room is far from your average yoga studio: it’s an intimate one-room space that hosts yoga classes, meditation, Qigong and Tai Chi practices, reiki healing and psychotherapy sessions, along with a variety of workshops throughout the year.
Lana Lontos is the studio’s manager and resident yoga teacher. “The studio clientele reflect the fascinating diversity of Parkdale residents,” explains Lana. “Lots of amazing people practice here; entrepreneurs, academics, artists and high-powered executives all come here and practice together. There’s a really good sense of community here.” Unlike many busy downtown studios, the Parkdale Prana Room, you won’t always find students rushing off to their next appointment. “The students want to get to know each other and they stay before and after class.”
