If the Era antiques store has a theme song, it could be “O Canada.”
After all, the stylishly eclectic collection of vintage modern furniture, lighting, paintings, decoratives and antiques is responsible for boosting this country’s tasteful reputation — one remarkable décor item at a time.
Brian Clish, Era’s owner, cites one of his most cherished finds as an example: “It was a beautiful console table from Italy that was carved from wood, a clamshell with two monkeys holding it on each side," he says. "One of the most powerful dealers in North Carolina bought the piece and she simply could not believe it was found in Canada."
Brian says he is one of only two or three Toronto-based antique dealers who travel widely — especially to wealthy households in the United States — to find highly sought-after pieces. “Americans are far more into interior design than Canadians. Even the middle class hires decorators. So the products there tend to be finer and more original.”
