The food was excellent and your staff, Ryan and Kim, made my 50th birthday celebration that much better. They were so friendly and accommodating that they blended right in with my friends and family, Now that's rare! I always believe in ”giving credit where it's due” because so many are so quick to point out the negative, well, this is one positive review I'm happy to share. Thanx for making my 50th one of the best nights of my life! - Neal -
I just went here today and probably won't be coming back anytime soon. We went for the winterlicious menu and the eggplant was great however the portion size was ridiculously small for the price we paid. The service was silly. I didn't see anyone come around like what is the gratuity for? Honestly not worth it guys. There are so many other restaurants on he winterlicious list and over the years I've been too many but have yet to be charged gratuity in my bill with only 4 people there? Ridiculous
I would definitely go back for the live entertainment. Lady Kane is awesome! First off, the place is so dark I had trouble seeing what I was eating!! I went during Summerlicious and laughed at the portions. The chicken was good but the "served with sweet potato mash and veggies"....not even a tablespoon of either!!! The Ravioli option is 4 flat raviolis...that's it. My app of shrimp was 5 regular size shrimp. And the dessert was a small piece of tiramisu. Apparently they dont do separate bills and you HAVE to either pay all in cash or all on a credit card, Considering we had around 15 people, this was a nightmare! Especially when we needed to use the flashlight on a cell phone to read it properly. Not to mention that the automatic tip was on our bill which meant that apparently the server didn't have to do much. I got water when I arrived and had to finally flag her down after I had finished eating to get any more. I did notice the other end had refills all the time....of the ALCOHOLIC drinks. The bus boy that cleaned our table did more and was more helpful. To sum it up food tasted good but the portion size was laughable at the cost of $25. I really hope their normal menu is better. If you go, go for a fun night out...AFTER eating ;)
Recently a group if friends and I had dinner at Ally Catz. The r eservation number was recorded wrong, so we had to squeeze additional people at the table; there were 5 or so errors made on our order; service wasn't fantastic; bread came after our entree; for quality, food was over priced. Great live music though.
I've been to many restaurants before with less than fantastic service, but this place was bad that I signed up with this page and any page I could write a review on. The service was disappointing and the food was inedible. Our "server" started the night by providing us with dirty water glasses and seemed put out of her way when I asked her to replace it with a clean one and then rudely slammed the clean glass down when she returned. The risotto, which was ordered by a number of people in the party, was overcooked and when we told the server she simply said "that's risotto". One guest in the party almost broke his tooth on an olive pit that was in his pasta. We eventually spoke with the manager, who was also very rude. Considering our party size and the fact my friend was celebrating her birthday you would think he may want to offer us something for the lack of service and disgusting food. Needless to say that if the gratuity was not included in the bill she would not have received a single penny. There are many other jazz clubs in the city worth visiting and I would definitely steer clear of this place!!!
Great atmosphere, food was decent. Lounge area and live music!
This place is awesome! I go there almost every weekend because the music is so amazing. They alway's have a great band that play' s to the crowd. It definetly gets packed so if you don't like crowded places don't go there. The staff at the door are real nice. If they see you enough and your nice to them they'll even let you bypass line AND cover. How cool is that!?! The owner goes out of his way to make sure your having a good time and talks to as many people as he can. The chef really works hard to make sure your meal is perfect and everytime I've been there it has been. The steak's are to die for and just melt like butter in your mouth. The bartenders are really out of this world! They are professionals who know how to give great service. I don't know how they do it but even if it's really busy they still get to you in reasonable time. The bar is alway's fun to hang out at and 2 of the bartenders really know how to put on a show. They do "flair" bartending and throw bottles. It's really cool! All in all I recomend it to anyone who want`s to avoid the attitude downtown. I honestly don`t know what these other people are talking about. The place is alway`s packed so they must be doing something right.
Food was over-priced and the portions were small. We came here for a pre-wedding celebration and we were placed in a cold, dark corner of the restaurant (these are the seats that they had reserved for us) next to a window with batteries, dirt and other debris on the ledge. The bride-to-be ordered steak with a side of mashed potatoes and a plate of fries. Her handful of defrosted fries ended up costing 5$, and her "mashed potatoes" were actually potato wedges. Her steak was half fat...so really, her meal was potatos and fat with a side of steak. Through out the night all sorts of complications came up: - they wouldn't do separate billing - the waitress spilled a drink in my hair (we still had to pay full price for all food and drinks, no attempt was made to rectify the situation) - they would not do separate billing - they would not refill our water - they would not give us a jug of water for us to refill ourselves (only after asking numerous times did the waitress grudgingly give us a jug of water) - they did not have fresh fruits - they would not turn down the air conditioning although it was absolutely frigid - they would not give us more pita chips for our dip (the spinach dip appetizer which costed over $8 had no more than 10 pita chips on the plate). When we asked for more chips, they told us that they would charge us extra for them. - when we asked to have our food wrapped up, the waitress told us that they did not have boxes. "We can put it in tin foil for you if you want...." On top of all of that, they put a $21 gratuity on our bill, which was absolutely ridiculous, considering the fact that we were only 5 people, and one of us had only eaten an appetizer and then left. We went to the bar to ask them to take the $21 off the bill. The bar tender tried to convince us that this was their poilcy. Luckily, we had done our research and there was no such policy in place posted anywhere in the restaurant or on their website. The waitress came to join our little conversation and then she yelled this classic line: "WHAT? Am i supposed to fill it up every time your glasses are empty?" (Well, you're the waitress. Why don't you figure it out?) We left without paying the tip, but if I had my way, we would have left without paying for any of it. I would like to point out that through out the entire night, we were extremely polite and tolerant. We did not make a big fuss about ANY of the complications that came up but their rude wait-staff and imposed "gratuity" was too much. It was such an apalling experience, and we ended up going somewhere else to make up for the rest of the evening. At least they had some kind of service and they would give you your food in proper containers!
Service was horrible. Never been treated so rude at the door of an establishment. Later was told the person at the door was the owner! He definitely has no respect for his patrons and has no understanding of "customer service." If it wasn''t because we were there to celebrate our friends'' marriage I would have walked out. Food was average; overpriced for the quality. Owner and hostess were rude, unwelcoming and pretentious. When we complained about being forced to pay $10 cover at 8:30pm (WTF?), even when we were going to order food for dinner [tables around us were only just placing their food orders] the owner didn''t even have the decency to come speak to us...such a coward! However, the live band was awesome...but kind of wished someone would''ve called the fire marshall because the place was super-packed...
We had high hopes for this lovely little place, great atmosphere... THAT'S ABOUT IT. Terrible service... Terrible (not rude) but just terrible service for a slow weeknight!!! Too bad.
Alley catz is fantastic and I'm now a regular. Its not your typical bar/restaurant. On Monday nights, its Salsa, Tuesday is swing dancing - the lindy hop- and so on. Every time I've been, they have a live band, and only charge cover on the weekends. For you smokers-- best smoking room in the city. It spans the whole length of the restaurant, with large windows that open up into the "alley". This place is always a lot of fun but it is somewhat expensive. Martinis are 10.50, and cover on weekends or special events can be 10-20 $. But do try it out, i think it's well worth it.
Food was great. Service was great. Wonderful atmosphere that was relaxing and at the same time casual and fun. The live band played R&B, funk, some jazz and they were amazing. A really fun time!
Service is the worst I ever received. Waiter made a mistake but would not admit or correct it and started swearing, owner got involved and supported the waitor (would not believe that waitor made a mistake), food was not too bad but kitchen looks very filthy, so after I saw it (you can peek there on your way to washroom)I would not eat there ever again.

The appropriately named Alleycatz gives music lovers and foodies plenty to cheer about: a menu with Mediterranean flair, a varied martini line-up and after-dinner entertainment in the form of salsa, karaoke and live bands playing ’40s dance music. On the Winterlicious menu: eggplant cannelloni with roasted spinach, ricotta and parmesan; giant wild mushroom ravioli; and dessert options like tuxedo truffle mousse cake and classic chocolate ice brownie.
