restaurant First impression is too good n very helpful staff and good location.
Disappointed. Over priced meal. The food was just ok, nothing special. The steak and roast beef were not better then any local restaurant for half the price. Save your money and go somewhere else. The ambience wasn't anything special. Overpriced.
I attended a stag at The Octagon, and this was my first time attending the restaurant. I went into this experience with high expectations. All I knew about this restaurant was that it was supposed to be an expensive, but quality place. What I found out was quite the opposite. This was definately not the worst restaurant i've ever been to. The interior decor was unique but not warm and cozy, not that it's supposed to be. The servers and staff were adequate but never the most friendly or hospitable. They were all very capable of doing their jobs, but never really made you feel welcome. I'm not picky about this fact, so I was fine with that. I cared about most about the food. The food started with a variety of appetizers. Prawns, bacon wrapped scallops and garlic bread were all brought to the table. All three were good, but not great. No real problems there. I ordered the ribs, and this was where I had issues. They were overdone and very tough. I know it's a steakhouse, but I figured they could do ribs right. My good friend ordered the peppercorn steak and was not thrilled with that either. It's not that any of this food was bad, it just didn't live up to my expectations which may have been a little higher than they should have been. Overall, based on my experience at The Octagon, I would recommend that everybody try it once, but only for the unique experience. Maybe I just need to try it again, but the one time I did go did nothing to entice me to return.
I had been meaning to go here for a long time; finally went; I had the chicken which was amazing; service was superb; made me feel like royalty! will def return :)
First impression was good, Free valet parking, We walked into the restaurant and did not even get a hello or a greeting of any kind just a stare, and then I got asked if I had a reservation, We were seated near the fireplace in a cozy booth, My wife looked and me and said what is wrong with that guy, I just laughed, We ordered a couple of drinks and got served with garlic bread, pickles, olives and peppers, Garlic bread was really good. We ordered a ceaser salad for two to start and was prepared at our table, For thirty dollars we thought we would get a full plate of salad rather than a small serving, The wife ordered the filet, I chose the baby back ribs, We asked the server for a wine list to order a bottle of wine, That never showed up and I had to ask again, We ordered a bottle of california wine that was ok for 90 dollars, Our food arrived a few minutes after we got our wine, The plates looked bland and not what I expected for the price, Mushrooms on my spouse's plate we over cooked and salty, mashed potatoe was luke warm at best, Vegetables were tasteless and cold,The filet was ordered medium, it was rare and had to get send back, When it arrived for the second time it was black on the outside overcooked,My ribs were overcooked, The server Told us thats how we make our ribs here but did offer my wife another steak, She said its ok this will do.We skipped dessert and just sat around drinking our wine,Had a couple of coffee's and asked for the check from our server. On our way out we did get asked how our eveing was, I did mention that I was not happy with our meals and the steak and ribs were overdone, I got asked if I let the server no about our food. I answered that did not solve the problem and left. Not impressed.
The staff, from maitre d to coat attendant were all very attentive and knowledgeable, but not once did i see a single one of them crack a smile. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine list and recommended a delicious red that complimented the meal. The peppercorn steak was cooked to perfection with an amazingly creamy peppercorn sauce. The chicken neptune was topped with succulent crabmeat and asparagus, with a hollandaise sauce that complimented but did not overwhelm the dish. Cleanliness was impressive but combined with the staffs curt demeanor made it feel a little bit too "stuffy" for my liking, although I would gladly return for the food again.
Food was good but that's about all. Grossly overpriced considering the rotten service. Waiters were unfriendly and made us feel like we were a bother. I'll never go back and would advise anyone to stay away from this place.
Worst service ever. Surly, unattentive waiters who make you feel that your an intrusion. Grossly overpriced and very pretentious. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
The atmosphere seems pretty classy but I think part of that is due to the dark lighting -- it's a steakhouse so dim lighting is part of the ambiance. The complimentary garlic bread was rich and delicious. We started with a caesar salad they prepare and toss right in front of you. As the server makes the dressing they ask you how you would like it. The plating of the food on the plates seem haphazard but the servers are professional and friendly. The steak I had tasted like any other restaurant steak but the prime rib my friend had was really good. It's quite expensive compared to what I'm used to so I won't be going there very often but I'd definitely go again for a special occasion.
I took my girlfriend here becasue we had promised each other a night at a good restaurant but the restuarnat undermines its decor and OK meat with so-so service. For the price a less workman like sercvice staff would be nice. Still a ncie place for a steak
The steaks were excellent, cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is very warming. The service was not the greatest, but not bad either.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary. The food in general was fine except my steak had a bit too much of charcoal and sand in those scallop!! The service was really terrible given the fact that it is a kind of classy restaurant. The guy that served us was not friendly at all and he hardly smiled. Maybe he doesn't know the basic of customer service. I really don't think he want to serve us! They are plenty really good restaurants in GTA so if you don't want to risk to have the same experience as we did, please think twice before you go there!!!
the ribs are great! the Caesar was made in front of us. swanky looking place inside. the waiters are a bit to hard on us for my liking, but i respect it.
Very disappointing. The food was fine - not bad, not great. But the service was stuffy and terrible. The waiters were very impressed with themselves but didn't seem to understand that part of being a waiter is, well, to actually wait on tables. Also, they put several extra salads and a couple of extra french onion soups on our bill. OK, mistakes happen. But when we pointed it out there was no apology or acknowledgment of error. Finally, I let them know it was my mother's birthday and they kindly brought out a piece of cake with a candle...and then charged me $6 for it! When I'm already paying hundreds of dollars for a meal, you'd think they might have comped the tiny little piece of cake. Terrible.
We love going to the Octagon you are guaranteed wonderful service and fantastic food. The atmosphere is beautiful and inviting. We brought some members of the family for the first time and they were very impressed. We will visit time and time again!
The Octagon is an upscale steakhouse. The clientèle is professional and well-to-do. The decor is rich, tasteful, and elegant. The steak was prepared perfectly. We had requested medium and it was delicious. Very warm, tender, moist, with a pink centre. Garlic mashed potatoes on the side were perhaps a little too garlicky. The sole almondine was very flavourful and a larger portion than expected. We had asked for a recommendation for a house red wine. The recommendation was Black Opal and it complimented the dinner selection. The staff - maitre d, wait staff, coat room attendant, etc. - are very professional but curt, not very friendly, and do not smile. They are however, attentive. Make a reservation, the place is busier than expected on a Thursday evening. Parking is tight. It is quite expensive so try it as part of an intimate celebration or to impress a business associate.
We were given a gift certificate to the Octagon so we thought we'd try it out. The food was great. They make a mean ceasar salad, right at your table. It was the best I've ever had. The steaks were great and the atmosphere wonderful. We'd definitely go back for a special occasion only, as it was very pricy!
lousy food. Steaks are way over priced and the servers are arrogant
My boyfriend and I cam here for our anniversary. Excellent service, a very classy, sophisticated atmosphere. A great ambience. Each table feels very private and the waiters are very attentive. The rib eye steak was phenomenal. It was juicy, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. I also had a bit of my boyfriend's steak too which was also really good! Of course, the filet mignon was too huge for me to finish (16 oz) so I took the rest home. Surprisingly my parents had microwaved it and finished it off and also thought it was amazing. It must be to actually taste good after microwaving! I highly recommend going here for a special occasion. May have been the most delicious steak I've had!
Best Ceasar salad I have ever had. The steak was no Kobe, but considering you can not get Kobe anywhere...Octagon definitely competes with the other high end steak houses in the city...Great atmosphere, above average service and superbe local for fine dining....

This elegant fine dining restaurant has been serving Thornhill residents for over 40 years. The octagonal-shaped steakhouse features opulent décor throughout — sparkling chandeliers, dark wood furniture, stained glass lanterns — and entertaining chefs prepare and serve Caesar salads (for a minimum of two diners) tableside in oversized wooden bowls. Not just a feast for the eyes, the bountiful mix delivers an expertly-executed mix of dark leafy greens, romaine lettuce, house-made croutons and crunchy bacon bits coated in a delicately smooth dressing.
