1) We had placed our order in advance by email, however we had to wait for it for more than 35 minutes. 2) Sea Bass - $35. Advertised with cherry tomatoes and olives , was actually served with 3 halves of cherry tomato and very few small peaces of an olive, however with lot of onions and garlic that were not mentioned in the menu. 3) Fettuccini Funghi - was supposed to be served with wild mushrooms. Actually came with champignons only and very thick noodles, which were half-done and sticky.
Every course was equally delightful at this upscale jewel of a find in Newmarket. The wine list is thoughtful and reasonably priced including some incredible Reds. The knowledgeable, attentive, staff helped me with some wonderful pairing suggestions and we were able to relax and take our time without feeling rushed. The timing of food service was impeccable and our wine glasses were kept topped up. I am thrilled to have such a great place to retreat to locally.
Ate in private room; antipasto/pasta/main course/salad & separate kids menu. Each course was served an hour between & each guest served at different times with 15 minutes between. Kids meals came out last and piping hot. Pasta was cold, side dishes bland & salad was never served. We spoke to the owner & she was extremely rude & argumentative. She offered no apology & made us very uncomfortable. Food is mediocre & owner offers horrible customer service. Stay away & spend your money elsewhere!
We had a dinner party which was pre-arranged and decided on a set menu to simplify things, however this didn't help. There was at least an hour wait between each course and the courses were served at different times. We ask to speak to the owner and during our conversation with the owner/manager, she offered no apology and was extremely rude, argumentative and unaccommodating. We will never go to this restaurant again as we can't support such blatant rudeness and awful service from the owner.
I had dinner at Spero recently and just can't understand where the positive reviews come from. The atmosphere is cozy, but the food is bland and the service is poor. We waited over 90 minutes for our entrees and the restaurant was not exceptionally busy. We expressed our concerns to the female manager, but she seemed uninterested. Spend your money elsewhere, you'll be glad you did.
I've been living in Newmarket for about 3 years and I know I've driven past Spero but hadn't noticed it. I regret that I've overlooked this restaurant all this time - you must check it out! We went out as a group of ladies on a Friday night for dinner and had a great time! I was blown away by the decor and ambiance from the minute I walked in. A man (who I believe is the owner) greeted me warmly and saw a few of us to our table right away. I enjoyed the fresh pasta in my main dish, and the salad was perfectly dressed - not too much, not too little - and delicious. I noted with interest my friends' selections - a bruschetta-type pizza and a "garlic bread" pizza which was out of this world. My main was a tagliatelle with chicken and sun-dried tomato - the fresh pasta was to die for. The portions were generous, so much so that I ate to my heart's content and still had leftovers to take home (for lunch the next day!). I enjoyed the tiramisu, one of the best I've tried anywhere, and the coffee was perfect, would love to find out what they brew there. I am definitely ordering takeout from this location to try that bruschetta pizza for myself as soon as I can, and this is now one of my new favourite restaurants in Newmarket. You must not overlook this restaurant, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
From the moment we entered on Valentine's day and were greeted with a warm smile and the evening was on! The dining room is so nice ... We kicked the night off with some mouth-watering martini's that were to die for. For appetizers, my wife had a caesar salad and I had a very delicious calamari ... a great start. For mains, I went for the Venison special which was outta-this-world and my better half did a mushroom risotto (which I did get to sample and was exquisite). To compliment the dinner, we washed it back with a battle of the '08 Joseph Phelps cab ... what an amazing wine and a great value (downtown your paying $30-$40 more for the same bottle). The desserts were decadent and to seal the deal, our wonderful server gave my wife a rose. My compliments - thanks Spero, see you soon. You pulled off an amazing dining experience for us and on Valentine's, wow...
great atmosphere...it's a nice small place and has a great feel to it. saturday night - make sure you book a reservation. we were seated right away however the service was a little slow. it was much better during the week, thought. great wine list and delicious menu. will go back again for sure!
Tried Spero for the first time recently as they hosted (their first) wedding, an occasion of a friend of mine. They food was incredible. The pasta was a penne with a tomatoe sauce, and the chicken was scrumptious. The salad was good as well, though very basic and the drinks were tasty, though perhaps a bit watered down. Would go again to see what they offer on a regular occasion. The decor was lovely and modern and the staff were kind.
I've been here a couple times, and have really enjoyed it. The server was gracious and friendly and very clean and polite and professional. It has more of an upscale atmosphere, indoors and its nicely decorated. They even have a patio area. W spent aprox $70 to $100 for 2 each visit, with drinks and dinner and tip. The mushroom risotto , and the salmon on saffron risotto are very delicious! The salmon was pan seared to perfection. the chicken alfredo parm sooo good, i had the leftovers a couple days later and still tasted great! Their martini list is tasty and the place has an authentic Italian feel to its menu. I would recommend this place to anyone!
One of the best restaurants in Newmarket by far! If I could afford it, I’d eat here more regularly but it’s definitely nice for a treat. My last visit was for a friend’s birthday, there were 12 of us at the table. Our server handled our group very well and we all got exactly what we ordered. The food was hot and delicious, everything seemed very fresh. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, a quiet jazz duo performed in the corner which makes for a great experience. Will be going back again for sure!
Delightful experience; varied menu of Italian standards with a local twist; competent table service; a fine Sunday evening meal. Not enough wines available by the glass, though.
FINALLY a good restaurant in town! I have gone here many, many times, lunch and dinner and I have been impressed every time. The service is prompt, the servers are exceptional, the atmosphere is wonderful (they have live music on saturdays), the decor is beautiful and the food is delicious. I have had almost everything on the menu, including, the salmon, risotto, stuffed chicken, the pizzas are great, the insalata di spero is so sweet and wonderful, and most delicious of all, the lasagna wrapped in philo! I have been there with a huge party of 16 and they did a wonderful job, especially while the restaurant was to capacity. There isn't more that I can say about this restaurant except that it is delicious and fantastic. However, the only draw back is the fact that it is so busy every weekend and that reservations are almost mandatory. I highly recommend this restaurant over anything in this region for italian food. 2 thumbs up!
