My Husband & I went in August for our Anniversary and had a great time! Food was excellent, had the prime rib and melted in your mouth! The server brought us a special dessert which was unexpected and made our night!
Disappointed doesn't even begin to sum up my experience at Golf's recently. I'll start by saying I didn't order a toothpick for dinner--yet that's what I was served in my petit filet. Upon discovery of this, I received an apology from my server (no manager ever came by) and removal from my bill of the meal I didn't eat. They did make sure to charge me for a $3 salad bar though, the only food of theirs I was able to eat that night. As pulling splintered wood from my mouth kinda killed my hunger
Food was overcooked. Veggies cold. Great service though. The kitchen isn't up to par.
After reading all the positive and negative reviews on this place, I would have to agree with TinaP. Where else do you find a family run restaurant in which case the owners or one of his family members personally greets you at the front door. I think that the slightly outdated decor can be overlooked considering their prices and quality of food. Although I haven't eaten at Golf's for a few months, if there ever is a milestone anniversary or birthday party, they are the first ones I call. Like TinaP said, you aren't in business for over 40 years and serve toxic food. Personally, I think they are best restaurant around.
This is the 2nd year we have gone to this restaurant to celebrate a family birthday and the 2nd time one of us has ended up violently ill. Both times each family member ate the prime rib dinner, with fries and broccali and both ended up barfing thier brains out within 4-5hrs of eating. Upon calling the management they deny everything, however it is just too much of a coincidence!! Do not eat at this restaurant or at least dont eat the prine rib. I will never take my family back again especially after the attitude of mangement. Health inspector will be getting a call for sure!
Where did all the buffet brunches go? I first visited Golfs on a tip from a cousin that their brunch was not only a buffet, but good value. Wasn't disappointed. Made reservations for mothers day on my way out and cant wait to go back
We were celebrating a milestone for my Mother who picked Golf's. I had my wedding reception there and hadn't been back since because of THAT bad experience. Everything was over priced, over cooked and looked terrible on the plates. Spend your money somewhere that deserves it.
This is a really nice brinch buffet!!! Its very popular and reservations are your best bet! the food is fresh! good quality and lots to choose from! and for $16.95 all you can eat, You can't go wrong! and if a table for 2 is what you need ask to be in the room that over looks the river!! soooo bright and cheerful! get there early there are line up for the hot food! but it moves and they keep the fresh stuff coming!
Every time I go, the food is perfectly cooked and is always fresh. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about everything. The problem is with the decor. It really needs to be brought into the year 2011. Also - the food is usually a little bland for my tastes. I know a lot of older people like to dine here, however, I still wouldn't mind having the option to order something with a little flavour, spice, and/or heat! Also - their brunch is absolutely amazing! I recommend it to everyone :)
Went on a Monday night and the wife was looking forward to the salad bar. What a dissapointment // they used to have the best salad bar around but that is not the case anymore. I had a prime rib which I must say was awsome. The wife had a stuffed chicken breast but there was not to much stuffing. (This item was over priced for what she got..) We will try it again on a weekend and hope that there is a better salad bar. Customers get used to certain things and if you start cutting corners you may see the customer disappear.
A VALENTINE’S DISASTER!! With this special occasion upon us again, I am reminded of our horrible experience at Golf Steakhouse last year! There were 10 of us to celebrate Valentines and an Anniversary. Upon entering the restaurant I was a quite surprised to see that they didn't have much of an atmosphere or decoration for the occasion. It was pretty much bland and unfestive. The hostess did not seat us but rather just pointed into a vague direction for us to find our party. Our table decor matched the bland surroundings, no flowers, no music not even a candle to dress up the table. No indication of any ambience or warmth that this was supposed to be a romantic setting for Valentines at all. Once seated we ordered drinks and I noticed our Cocktails were left sadly undressed without any garnishes at all, not even a straw. We all ordered appetisers, and felt rushed through them, as my dinner came before I had finished mine. Many of us noticed how cold and windy it was around and above us. We started putting on our coats and noticed the cold air vent directly above us, blowing down on our heads and backs. I looked directly in front of us at the wall where we sat, and saw a big Fireplace dead and silent. Not even on for the ambiance, let alone a heat source. Remember it was a very cold mid February Ontario winter! We asked the waitress if they could turn off the air conditioning so we could remove our coats while eating. When we got up to sample the salad bar, we walked by it twice, not noticing the small table of which used to be their name to fame for the largest, grandest, Best Salad bar in town. Not any more by a long shot! We finally had to ask a waitress where it was and she pointed out that we were standing by it! It consisted of a very bland & poor selection of pasta, noodles, some lettuce, some Jell-O, oh did I mention the pasta and more pasta? After staring at it in shock, we all passed on the pasta bar or what used to be called a “Salad Bar" That was an insult to my eyes and appetite. Once I got my Lobster meal, I poured the melted "butter?" on the 2 tails. I took one bite and spit it out into my napkin. This was not only Not Butter but some very over salted margarine!! My mouth was so corroded with salt that I could not rinse it out with the entire glass of water I had to swish and swallow with. Everything I tried to eat or sample after that was numb to my pallet. Everything was tasteless due to the overwhelming salt in my mouth. Who in their right mind serves salted butter (margarine) with Lobster!!!! When I desperately waved down our waitress and explained this terrible mistake, she advised my "Ok fine, I'll return this butter and get you another one, But you're just going to get the same salty stuff we use on all our foods, again. She was right ...I got another dipping cup of salt. I couldn't help but wonder....Are the Owners/Managers aware of this criminal food offense? I was so appalled and sickened to the point I could not eat a thing after that. I did not eat my second tail as I thought I might be able to salvage what was an expensive piece of seafood at home by rinsing the life off of it and try to reheat. It was useless as the salt had completely soaked into the flesh and it was also ruined. I threw it into the garbage! I have never in my life gone to a Steak and Seafood place that drowns their seafood in SALT BUTTER!? and they use this to cook with everything! So imagine if you had a salt diet? Would they tell you that they do this to all your food whether you like it or not? We weren't warned. Beware if you are under Doctors orders to cut down on salt! BEWARE OF UNINFORMED SURPRISES! The waitress became very antsy once we came close to finishing our meals, and seemed to be rushing around us removing every item on our table including the table cloth! Ok we get the hint...We were still drinking our dinner wines to wash out my salt mouth. Maybe I should ask t
I was recommended by several of my friends in the Kitchener Waterloo area to try this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised with the service, food, and value. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for a great Steakhouse.
Our first time at Golf's was a poor experience, but we decided to give it a second chance this evening and i'm glad we did! Although the atmotsphere is a little dated.. but for the quality and amount of food you get for the price its an awesome value. Hubby and I usually do our steak dinners at charcoal steakhouse and spend over $100 each time. For the both of us at Golfs it only cost $69 (we got free dessert hehe). Salad bar was great, the soup was delicous (we totally scored on the brocolli cauliflower soup) and the steaks were done perfectly. I was worried that the steaks were gonna be bland because first time around thats what i noticed. But they were scrumptious and well marbled. We are satisfied customers and will definately be returning... hopefully next weekend hehe
We have been going to Golf's for more than 25 years. We have always recommended this place. The odd problem(plastic in the salad for example) can be overlooked, but the treatment we received on Feb 6 2010 was uncalled for. I called a week before to reserve a window table at 5:45 I was told that I would have to book for 5:15 ,so I did. On arrival the "host" tried to take us to a table in a back corner, when I said we had a reservation for a window he became quite rude to the point that we left. The worst was that there were plenty of empty tables along the window. The food-ok ,the service-ok ,the view was why we went there. NOT ANY MORE. We will take our money elsewhere.
Why is this place till open? The food is weak the service is horrible and yeah and again the food was horrible. This place is for old ladies. Do not go there is you like food.
We've been going to the Golf since 2002 and it is always a great choice when you want to have great food without paying outlandish prices. I would rate it better overall than some big chain steak houses. Their service is a bit slow at times, but that is to be expected during the dinner rush. The servers are always curteous and helpful. In terms of food, you can't go wrong with the prime rib, the rack of lamb, or any of the steak choices. I have not tried their seafood as of yet, but I will on my next visit.
About 11 months ago I wrote a negative review about Golf's. I decided to go back the most recent time was Jan 18, 2009 and boy am I glad I went back....I had the best prime rib dinner that I have had in a very long gime...a very nice and polite waitress...and yes Mike the owner is back giving the entire place a Lift...in my opinion every thing has gotten better since he came back.
simply perfect, salad bar was awesome , soup and main course were deliciously wonderful, will deffinently be ruturning!!!!
This is the 2nd time we have been burned with tough dried out Prime Rib dinners at this place....it seems to be going down hill ever since its owner Mike retired and is no longer around....at $21.00 per person just for the prime rib...its too expensive just to end up throwing half of it out
I hadn't been to Golf's for a long time because the last time we went the food was uninspiring and the dead flies on the window sill sort of killed my appetite. after a 4 year absence I though I'd give them another try. Not again. We got the same table which should have been nice overlooking the Grand but the food was again bland and uninspiring and I swear the same dead flies were still there on the window sill.
