Thé quality has really gone down but the prices up! There is not much choice on the lunch menu.
We have been here for dinner several times when visiting our son in Kingston. We always pick The Keg here because it has been consistently great. The food and service and atmosphere is always wonderful and we would recommend this place to anyone.
My family has always gone to the Keg for celebratory dinners, the most recent was for a relative's birthday. We went on a Friday night around 7:30 and upon arrival I was surprised at how empty the restaurant was. However after being seated and ordering some appetizers I soon realized why. The quality of the food has gone down hill since my previous visits. My appetizer was cold and over-seasoned and my entree, a steak I asked for rare came medium-well. Also two of us odered the signature Keg Classic meals which come with a Salad, which we didn't recieve until our main entree's came out. The only saving grace was the Manager comped two bottles of our wine for the lousy service. I'll return but if I have another below average experience I won't be returning to the Keg.
I used to always ask to go to The Keg when we go out for a meal. I may rethink that now. We went last night and while the food was good, it is way overpriced for what you get. I ordered the Sirloin Oscar, medium well. It was medium rare when I got it. The scallops, shrimp and sauce were pretty good but for the asparagus, I got four two-inch long spears. Not much. The escargots do not have nearly enough cheese or garlic on them. When I pick up an escargot, I expect the cheese to stick to it. The crab cakes were good as was my husband's Bleu Cheese Filet. There was a rep from a wine company there offering samples of a Zinfandel and a Cabernet Sauvignon. We liked the Zinfandel and each ordered a Keg 9 oz. glass. The price for two glasses of wine? $25.00!!! For that price we should have ordered a bottle of something else like we planned on. Will I go back? It's looking pretty iffy.
After seeing The Keg opening up in different cities and not getting a chance to visit, I finally did this year a few times. I thought it would be fair to try out their place a few times before commenting. First off, their food is decent, the atmosphere is nice inside (classy) and their service as always, sucks. Generally the food is far overpriced, I would rate them a 6 1/2 - 7/10 in terms of quality. Out of the 3 times I went there, they seriously messed up our orders once. If you are out for a drink, a meal and maybe an appetizer, you're looking to spend anywhere from 70-100 for yourself alone. Probably one of the most expensive restaurants I've been too and I would say its not worth it.
We were having a bachelorette party dinner at the Keg on a Friday night. We had made reservations for 16 a week before and they were still about 30 minutes late with our table, but they compensated with a free round of drinks, which was nice. The drinks were tasty and strong, food was prompt and delicious, and everyone got their correct order. The servers were great about checking in on us regularly and our drinks were never empty. They also threw in a free drink with a shot glass under whipped cream (they won't let me type in the real name) for our bachelorette, which was unrequested and fun. They messed up our bill a bit at the end of the night (they forgot to add the free drinks) requiring a couple of reprints but it was all sorted out in the end, and everything worked out. All in all, it was a good night and we would definitely go back!
My husband and I celebrated his birthday at the Keg last Saturday night. Our reservations were for 9pm and waited approximately 3 minutes for our table. We were brought to a wonderful fairly private booth which was perfect. The ambiance was wonderful-cozy and dimly lit. Our service was good (don't remember her name) but not exceptional-no problem or issues with her though. We ordered a beer and Smirnoff and they arrived quickly. We found the french onion soup to be delicious as was the caesar salad (the salad was fairly small but only $5.95 so perfect to share for two with the soup). The sour dough loaf was excellent also-warm and hearty and we actually ordered a second and were not charged (which is nice since some establishments charge for something like that). My husband ordered a steak although I forget the name. It was supposed to be the largest (14 ounces?) and he ordered it with sweet potato fries (b/c I wanted to try them!!) and sauteed mushrroms and veggies. He felt the steak was excellent although didn't find it to be too big. I ordered the chicken fajitas but substituted portabello mushrooms for the chicken since I am a vegetarian and they were wonderful. It was also a very large quantity and were $13.95 which I felt was very reasonable. Because it was my husband's birthday, he was treated to a free dessert which I think was some kind of mocha mousse cake (we took it home but put it in the fridge so it melted and it got thrown out!). I think The Keg was a perfect choice for our intimate ocassion and the food was wonderful. Our bill came to $89.00 and considering we ordered 3 drinks, 3 appetizers and two main courses (one being steak) we felt this was very reasonable. We will definitely be returning soon.
I don't know how to respond to those who have had bad experiences... must just be bad luck. I have eaten at the Keg in Kingston on many occasions and it has been absolutely wonderful every time. There is nowhere in Kingston to find a better steak. I would be happy to eat there every night if I could afford it.
Steak of course. There is only one place in town to get a great steak. I think that those who complain should maybe stay home or stick to take out. I am a regular to Keg restaurants and they have consistent service and food quality. I would recommend the Kingston Keg or any other Keg to anyone looking for a great meal. Thanks to the Keg for returning to Kingston after so many years and no thanks to the people that do nothing but complain because they have nothing better to do with their day.
The restaurant was busy when we got there, understandable, so we sat at the bar while we waited for a table. The woman at the bar stood there talking to friends and ignored us for about 5 minutes. We sat there with no menu's or drinks. We asked a passing by server for menu's and I waved down another bartender so we could order some wine. The woman bartender brought the wine after about 15 minutes and never took our order, even though we specified we would order. She was VERY rude. I, again, waved down the other bartender who took our order. We were at the bar for 35 minutes. Way to long to get a glass of wine and take an order since we pretty much knew what we wanted. A table opened and we were moved but no server was assigned to our table. We sat there for an hour and a half before a manager came out with our food and was wondering around with it not knowing where to go. We got no bread, no server, no wine refills, no nothing. Its no wonder we even got our food, although cold and small portioned. We obviously complained and the manager paid for our meals because the whole night turned out to be such a flop!
Excellent place to dine in Kingston. The General Manager now Knows my family and greets us by name. The food is always excellent. Great staff, excellent atmosphere... a GREAT place to dine in Kingston.
Excellent food and service. Definitely would go there again. The only negative about the Keg is lack of vegetarian dishes but this is a universal Keg negative, not just Kingston.
This is an excellent restaurant. The staff was friendly and the managers were very helpful. I don't know why so many people have had such a negative experience. Good job everyone, keep up the good work!
ok well my group camp for a prom dinner and honestly it wasnt that great. The servers were incredibly rude to us, they refused to give some of the older guys alcohol despite the fact that they had ID, The food came at wrong times, and was given to the wrong people, they didn't give utensils for about 3 of our guests. some of the food was also undercooked. We were a Larger group than 10 and well we were alone in an area and it was loud, the manager came out and yelled at us that if we werent quiet we would get kicked out. When it came time for paying 3 out of 5 people who used Visa were rejected, they took well over 30 minutes to have everyone pay which was FAR to long! honestly a horrible experience! i really dont not ever want to go back
Although I was advised not to go from my neighobors who had had a bad experience there, my husband and I with 2 friends decided we'd give it a try for my birthday. It was awful. The hostess was incredibly rude and useless at finding out how long it would be for a table. We seemed to sit directly under a vent, 3 of the 4 steaks were over cooked. And I thought the server was extremely pushy in getting us to order expensive wine and meals. We also advised the server of a birthday, but were charged for the birthday ice-cream, we would not have otherwise ordered. Overall an awful experience, especially for the money.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was delicious. The Keg is my new favourite spot to dine in Kingston!
An absolutely terrific restaurant nestled just outside of Kingstons downtown. Tried the new "Whiskey mushroom sirloin" and was totally blown away. Servers were wonderful and on the ball. On the whole, a guaranteed pleaser on a rainy summer evening... or any evening for that matter.
An amazing restaurant! We are planning to return as soon as possible. Our party arrived late and we were told a 45 minute wait turned into less than five at the bar! We will be sure to make reservations next time though! Great service, wonderful food, I love the atmosphere and our group routinely goes to the finer establishments.
Food was great, everyone's dinner came at the same time. Food was hot and delicious. Waiter was very attentive and always going out of his way to please. What a great dining experience!
The food was good and the atmosphere is very old school. Good work!
