I have been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal. Ever. I am quite suspicious of the bad reviews that are written as I hve had several of the dishes offered and all were excellent. Spring rolls are always delicious. Am heading back there after I submit this review.
Kingston's best! Actually as far my experience goes Pat cooks 'the' best Cambodian food. Better than reputable spots in San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Montreal. Skip the fine dining and experience the best!
Amazing! Best Cambodian in Kingston, #1 out of this world... others may try to copy it, but it is no where close. Only problem is it is so small & busy, have to get there early for lunch, or no room.
No respect for their customers! I used to be a Pat's regular. I went to this restaurant in August 2010 with a friend. I entered the restaurant and asked where the washroom was. When I returned to my table, the owner (who I think is on steroids) came to my table and began yelling at me, telling me to watch where to watch where I'm am talking. He yelled at me loudly so the whole restaurant could hear. He claimed that I spat in someone's food. This was ridiculous because I never went near anyone else's food. My friend attested to this as well. There was no reason to embarrass me and yell at me in front of all the customers. The owner could have simply replaced the complainer's meal. My friend and I just left. I'm never going back there.
Have been there twice now. Had Pad Thai both times. Should really try something new. Flavourful, good portion size and under $10. The only negatives to this place is how busy the place can get. Also, it annoyed me that the staff there would not let me pay after I ordered my take out. So instead of getting that out of the way, I had to wait what felt like 30 min for my take out order and then had to wait again to pay for it. It would have been better if they just let me pay while I happened to be waiting for my food since I was already waiting. If possible, I would order ahead of time. Not worth it to order take out when you get there. Takes too long.
The only reason you should be reading this review is because you don't already know who Pat is. Pat is one of the best restaurateurs in Kingston and this restaurant here would, I believe, be his 6th. He's previously owned many cambodian/thai restaurant in Kingston so chances are, you've been to one of Pat's restaurants. The chefs that now own his old restaurants haven't changed much of the menu, because the food is awesome. The menu here is south asian food, curry, soups, spring rolls, pad thai and the like. The menu here is small, but pretty diverse, so chances are you'll find something you like. If you end up not liking anything, that's just because you don't like asian food. Spicy too, but you can order it mild if you like it that way. Service is nothing special, but the waiters/waitresses try their best ad always get the job done Really, the only problem is location. It's in the north end of town, more of a residential area, at the corner of Division and Elliott. Also, the corner they opened at is a bit of cursed area, plenty of restaurants opened there in the past and closed shortly after. But Pat's been there for a while and it's probably because the previous restaurants just weren't any good. Lastly, good like finding parking at dinner time, it can get pretty full in there If you've never been to Pat's, you're really missing out. The restaurants he previously owned downtown are good too, but nothing beats a meal from the man himself
Best place to get Cambodian/Thai food in town. Lunch and Dinner can be slow but just go into it knowing that and you will be fine or just get take-out.
