Excellent service as always. Food was fabulous. We missed our usual waiter Dan, he always made the experience more pleasureable. So happy to be dining there again.
Best Pork Souvlaki and fantastic Potatoes
My husband and I go to Grecos occasionally, and have always enjoyed it completely. The flaming cheese appetizer is a must try! Great way to begin the meal. We have always found the food to be wonderful and the staff to be attentive and fun. For those who've had bad experiences . . . I think it deserves a second chance. We've never been disappointed! (Oh, and it is always hopping-busy, so I think others are enjoying it too.)
We eat here a number of times every week - lunch when convenient and most often, dinner. The food, coffee and service are great. Everything is fresh & cooked to order. Friendly, professional, informed staff. We tend to eat dinner late which is a good thing because this restaurant can be very busy during prime hours - another indication of good food & loyalty of customers. Make a reservation if you can or go later in the evening. You will return!
We went out last night for dinner at Grecos on Princess street, in Kingston. The chef and owner, Jim, was so great, welcoming and generous! The food was excellent at an excellent price! Unbelievable!! We recommend it to anyone, we go out a lot, travel a lot, have developed culinary taste and knowledge, and I can assure you they serve top quality food in a unique way. Mediterranean food was great, we had sauteed shrimps, with flambe cheese, the waiters shouting a "HOPPA"!!! We had fun, the decor is cozy, the place is clean, and the waiters are professionals, which add a lot to the experience. Make sure you reserve ahead of time!! Enjoy!! Jim, hope you can visit in Montreal and enjoy the food as much as the one you cook! Thanks again for the experience, we'll remember Kingston with you and your resto on top of our memories. Eric & Rob :-)
I frequently drop by Grecos and the restaurant has never failed to deliver fantastic Greek food served in generous portions and at a great price; normally around $10 - $15 for lunches and around $20 for dinner. Service can be a bit slow at times and you may find yourself having to wave the waiters down to get their attention, but I have always been greeted warmly. For their appetizers, I highly recommend their Saganaki (since nothing speaks of deliciousness quite like a freshly prepared, pan-fried, flambéd cheese). For the extremely ravenous or for those in a large group, the Grecos Pikilia is a perfect way to sample a large variety of different appetizers in small portions. A word of warning - the platter can be rather filling so plan ahead to leave room for the mains and the desserts. Of the many times I've visited Grecos, I had the chance to try different items from both the lunch and dinner menus. The piece of resistance, for me, is their off-the-menu Lamb Shank special, served with a side of greek potatoes and veggies, if memory serves me correctly. If you're a lamb-lover, get this dish! The meat is fall-off the bone tender, perfectly marinated, and cooked to perfection. This dish alone can convince me to keep coming back to the restaurant. For those wanting something alternative to the lamb, their souvlaki and shishkebab are also fantastic and they are always very filling...especially when it comes to the large portions of their sides. All in all, good service and good atmoshphere since the restaurant can be a bit too dark in terms of lighting but the decors are pretty standard. The food, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. Be prepared to make reservations for dinners though; like most Kingston restaurants in downtown, Grecos is relatively small and the place gets filled up fast.
Was able to get reservations last minute on a Saturday night. Quite surprising. Place was pretty busy too. For appetizer had the Grecos Pikilia. This is enough for 4 people. It was all right, but felt that I should have gone for Saganaki instead. Would have been more tasty. One thing I have to say about this restaurant is that the portion size is very good. After eating the appetizer, for my main course, I could only eat half of it. Which was fine since I had something for lunch the next day. I was boring and just had the single portion of souvlaki. I found the food overall to be pretty good but not spectacular. What I DID find annoying is that getting a greek salad is an upgrade (extra 2.50) from a garden salad in terms of the salad that comes with the souvlaki. It's a Greek restaurant for God's sake, they should just match the dish with a Greek salad and not charge extra for it. Cheesy. The service was pretty good in that the waiter was attentive and came back to refresh our beverages including my water on a frequent basis. Also brought us a second basket of bread since it went with our appetizer better. The only issue I begrudge him for is not including my sauce for the souvlaki when he prepared (or perhaps it was the kitchen staff) my doggy bag. I was disappointed with my chocolate banana cake. I am a big dessert fan and if I leave 1/3 of the dessert behind uneaten- it is NOT a good sign. I could be wrong but it did not appear the prices were written on the dessert menu. My mother in law ended up paying but it would have been wrong if that dessert was in the $7 range. I don't like places that don't list the prices. It seems wrong to me. There were other items on the dessert menu that looked pretty good, but not sure if I should risk it next time to be disappointed again.... Might consider going back but likely would check out other Greek restaurants in town before rushing back to this one.
The best Greek food in Kingston. Have been going for years, take guests for special occasions and just for dinning out. Make reservations as is always packed and you will be disappointed if turned away.
Best cuisine served with care at a 4 star level. Wines are very good at reasonable mark ups. One of the city's secret haunts. But make a reservation.......always at night.
i must be honest, i dont actually eat in at this spot. Not because its horrible inside, i just dont love it. The food however is top drawer. the souvlaki is tender, the lemon potatoes are to die for. A definite must try
Have been regulars here for at least 15 years and have always enjoyed the food, and wait staff. Since then we have put up witha new server a few times then complained to the owner, he in turn gave us a new server the next time which made the evening enjoyable again. This week we went back and had to put up with the ......... server again. I think we will be searching for somewhere new to dine where we will be appreciated for our loyalty.
Went with a large group from work. We were forced to wait outside for 45 minutes while the staff prepared tables for us. I understand that it's hard to flip tables for a large group, but I believe the entire point of a reservation is that you have the tables ready at the agreed time so the people who reserved them don't have to wait outside. To be fair to the staff, I think this was more of an issue with overbooking the restaurant than it was with the work they were doing. Once we were seated, we waited about 15 minutes to have orders taken, and another hour for food to arrive. The atmosphere inside was okay. Lighting, decoration etc. was fairly standard. Not bad, vaguely Greek, but nothing that struck me as particularly special or memorable. The food was good, definitely above average for what you normally find in Kingston. The flavours were well balanced, and it was well prepared. Often I feel that restaurants are too heavy-handed with seasonings, but here I must admit that it was just right. By the time we left, we had been there for a total of three hours. Normally I don't mind a lengthy dinner once in a while, but when the first two hours or so of it is spent waiting to get into the restaurant and waiting for food to arrive, it's difficult to enjoy it. Three hours is okay if the timing's right, but when you're just eating a main course with no dessert and leaving, it's excessive. Overall, I'd say that the food was good, but the service times were a real problem. Other people in the restaurant in smaller groups seemed to be having a good time, though. I wouldn't recommend booking this place for more than four people, but the food definitely isn't bad. If you're in a small group, by all means, try it out, but I doubt that I'll be returning.
everything was top notch. Service was excellent. Food was probably some of the best I have had. Excellent wine list as well as Great prices.
Always a great dining experience at Grecos, from start to finish
u KNOW A GREAT RESTAURANT WHEN IT'S FULL ON EVERY VISIT. Thats why we love this place .Great food and service. And to the people who think this place gouges they're out to lunch.Maybe next time they can complain with a name. Good work grecos ,
After 15 years as a regular customer...even though the food has been lacking lately and the service has become deplorable... we still continued to go. Less, but we were loyal. Then, when the service became almost unbearable, we were price gouged to top it off. Never mind the restaurant consistantly being out of regularly stocked wines, and running out of dishes. The best part, they gave us the 'I don't even care" attitude when we discussed the gouging issue and told them we had decided never to return, after the poor treatment and utter rudeness. Guess they've forgotten how much damage can be done by this type of treatment. Used to recommend this place to everyone...not lately and definately never again!
Came in from out of town with my wife a few weeks ago and asked around for a good downtown restaurant with nice meat. Someone told us to check out Greco's. We came in around six and the place wasn't too busy, but waited at the door for at least 5 minutes while servers were walking by us without saying a word, So my wife and I sat at an open table, and it was like I ran over a kitten the way the server looked at me. We ordered a glass of wine each and I asked the server if the big steak was New York Striploin and he said yes. I got my steak and it was New York Sirloin... a big difference. I said to the server this is sirloin. He said impossible. Little does he know I am a butcher. I didn't even bother trying, sent the steak back asked for the bill and left. The worst experience of my life.
simply the best meal anywhere... amazing service... fantastic food and great prices... We love it and go when ever we are in town!
Amazing. never been let down, and have been there many many times. Great food, and great service. the place is a bit squichy though. I really hope they would make it a bit bigger. And I am not a fan of the two booths they have there. Seem too casual compared to the other tables. But great food!
