Best Restaurant in Van
Everything about this restaurant is amazing. The food was delicious, and the friendly staff made the night great. A little pricey but well worth it for a nice night out!
With its sun-trap covered patio and bright interior, situated next to to one of the world’s most famous Indian restaurants, Rangoli may be the little sister to the globally recognized Vij’s, but for savvy foodies in the city, it’s certainly never second best.
“When Meeru [Dhalwala, Vij's partner and head chef of Rangoli and Vij's] and I opened Rangoli it was never meant to open for dinner,” confides Vancouver restaurant legend and Dragon’s Den TV star, Vikram Vij. “We wanted to run it as a casual lunch place and to see if our Vij’s At Home range would work before investing heavily into it.”
Of course, anyone who’s tried Vij's At Home — the range of pre-made curries available for sale at Rangoli and in grocery stores across the Lower Mainland — will know, it's a soar-away success, so Meeru and Vikram decided to open for dinner, too. “We changed the menu from casual take-out and lunch to more of a bistro-style. The menu, the food and flavours are almost the same as Vij’s but just in a more simplified form.”

Local ingredients, house-made yogurt, cheeses, ghee, and spice blends are utilized to achieve amazing quality and amazing convenience.

The outdoor seating here works year-round, as it’s fully enclosed during winter months. In summer it's a great spot for a mango lassi; when the weather cools off, it’s a cozy place for a hot chai.

With many of Vij’s menu favourites, plus original items like black chickpea and onion cakes in coconut curry and other lunchtime dishes, Rangoli also acts as a market place selling the Vij’s line of premade curries for when you’re craving his perfect spice and ingredient mixes at home.
