Stable House Bistro welcomes you to their wine bar. You can also enjoy the sun on their terrace. They are open after-hours all week. You can get there by public transit and bicycle. They are found in a location filled with restaurants, coffee shops, stores and parks.
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, which is exactly what a group of South Granville professionals were thinking when they decided to open their own neighbourhood restaurant. The Stable House, opened in December of 2013, is a co-ownership among 10 local investors who set out to create a comfortable gathering place where neighbourhood residents could pop in for a bite and a glass of wine. Matthew Landry came onboard as general manager a year later in January 2015. A Toronto transplant, Matthew had run the acclaimed Actinolite Restaurant before relocating to the West Coast.
Reminiscent of a European bistro, The Stable House is tucked around the corner from busy South Granville on quiet, tree-lined 13th Avenue. The name harkens back to a time when this was an area of carriage houses. Mere blocks away was the start of the trolley line, where people left their carriages and tied up their horses before setting off downtown. “Once a salesman called here to offer us equestrian insurance, it was pretty funny,” Matthew says.
This elegant bistro is tucked away on a South Granville side street, making it a quiet spot for solitude and contemplation. The menu is simple and features an array of European-inspired favourites, including charcuterie and cheese plates, homemade soups and salads, which go nicely with a glass of wine from the impressive in-house collection. Who said drinking alone was faux pas? Here, it’s classy and sophisticated.
After a day of shopping in South Granville, the Stable House Bistro offers a happy respite. The small wine bar is an intimate neighbourhood haunt that offers some snacks and a small selection of larger entrées. The main event is the wine list, which offers several organic and sulphite-free options.
With only 36 seats (18 at the bar), this cozy neighbourhood bistro hums with a hip wine-bar vibe as guests savour wines, meats and cheeses from a rotating chalkboard menu. During happy hour, guests save $2 on selected wine, beer, hi-balls and three-piece meat-and-cheese boards. Get happy daily, 4:00 to 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm to close, plus all day Sunday.
