There may be no tighter-knit community than that of the miniature gaming and comic book market. Since 1993 Thunderground Comics has been a home to that community in St. Albert. Roy Kim has owned the shop since the start, and credits his customers for allowing him to keep doing what he loves. “There are great people here,” he says. “They’re incredible and I can’t say enough about them. Retail is a tough environment, but it’s our regulars that keep me going. Without them I wouldn’t be here, financially or emotionally.”
It’s a mutual love of the worlds created in these games and books that bring people of all ages together. Thunderground Comics provides all the accessories and supplies needed, whether it’s for the seasoned veteran or the novice testing it out for the first time. This sense of community and friendship is what attracts many to the hobby. “It’s very much a relationship. We need each other to survive," explains Roy. "We help each other out.”
