Wedding photographer Laurie Jensen of Laurie K. Jensen Photography believes that a wedding "should be a reflection of what your marriage is going to look like. You’re both doing it together.” This notion, of the wedding reflecting the marriage, is central to Laurie’s philosophy as a wedding photographer. Laurie helps her clients stay focused on what actually matters to them, versus the giving in to the pressure of what matters to everyone else. “As the photographer, I really want to be that go-to person for the [couple],” she says. “I don’t want to be just a photographer, or just a vendor; I want to be a friend to [my clients]. I want to help ground them, and I want them to trust me.”
Laurie K. Jensen Photography is built upon the belief that no matter the type of wedding – big or small, boisterous or subdued, perfectly planned or carelessly chaotic – focusing on planning an event that truly honours who you are as a couple is the only essential ingredient. “My husband and I eloped,” she says. “We didn’t have the best reception, we gave out cotton candy as our favours, and had it in our church. I’d rather have a beautiful marriage than a perfect wedding.”
Laurie gushes over non-traditional weddings. “I [love] elopements and weddings where it’s not all about the decorations or the highly sought-after venues, where it’s not about Pinterest-worthy themes – where it’s about them. It’s about their lives together, their love.” Laurie K. Jensen Photography stands out because Laurie actively seeks out clients that reject tradition for the sake of tradition. Laurie shoots “couples that want to get married in a forest or who go to J. Crew or BHLDN to get their wedding dresses. I want couples who don’t feel like they have to invite 300 people, but invite 30 people who are genuinely happy that they’re getting married,” she says.
