Owls Nest Books

Since 1975, book lovers have flocked to Owl’s Nest Books in Calgary's Britannia neighbourhood for great reads and expert knowledge from the avid readers on staff. Michael Hare bought Owl’s Nest Books with a partner in 1996, and in 2003, his wife Susan bought out that partner, making this a true mom-and-pop bookstore. “At this day and age, it’s a terrific and rewarding challenge,” says Susan.

It was a love of books that led Susan and Michael into the business. “I love being taken away to another place by a terrific story or great writing,” says Susan. Her passion is shared by her employees and all are more than willing to help customers find their favourite read. “Whether it’s fiction that sparks your imagination or a non-fiction book that inspires you to learn more about the world," says Susan, "reading is just a great way to experience the world.”

The store is stocked with bestsellers as well as gems by independent publishers that can lead you into genres you may never have thought to explore. Owl’s Nest Books also offers an extensive French language collection and jewellery and art by local artisans.
