“It’s a compact, mobile kitchen. It’s like a cafeteria on wheels.” That’s how Catherine Cartmill of N&N Lunch Wagon describes her business. From Monday to Friday, she makes her rounds to a wide variety of businesses. While she carries the usual candy bars and sodas for coffee breaks, N&N Lunch Wagon's hot and hearty meals like ravioli, ginger beef and burritos make a welcome change over cold sandwiches for many a worker on lunch break. Catherine also offers plenty of health-conscious choices.
N&N Lunch Wagon’s healthy meals such as salads and hummus reflect Catherine’s own commitment to healthy eating. “I’m so busy I often eat off the truck," she says. “I can’t just eat fried food and burgers.”
Her customers appreciate it, too. She points to one of her stops that serves both a medical professional building and a construction site. Unexpectedly, office workers tend towards the ginger beef while constructions workers buy the salads. “You never can assume what people are going to eat by the job that they do,” Catherine says with a laugh, adding that freshly cut watermelon is also extremely popular in the summer.
A portion of her growing body of loyal customers has been won over by the sheer variety of the N&N Lunch Wagon menu. Her daily specials may include pizza, subs or donair sandwiches, depending on what her suppliers – local restaurants and food service companies – prepare that day.
