My company was incorporated in 2003 under the business name: Carter Urban Design Ltd. -- James Carter Design is the operating name I have now chosen to use. I completed my Design and Drafting program in Nova Scotia in 1997. After school I went to work for a commercial construction company, where I spent several years learning the ins and outs of construction as a skilled labourer & contract administrator. From there, I moved to Calgary and spent the next 7+ years in various roles, such as: Draftsperson/Project Estimator, Construction Manager, and Lead Hand Installer. I made the switch back into the office as a designer in 2004. Here I spent 4+ years with a reputable architectural design firm where my knowledge of the design world really flourished. From there, I felt confident branching out on my own; which brings us to today.

I believe that I bring to the table a keen eye for asthetically pleasing features. My talent lies in the ability to take a client's wishlist, analyze the unique characteristics of their building site, create a pleasing floor plan, and tie it together with stunning exterior elevations. My knowledge and ability to utilize current design technology keeps me up to date, if not ahead of the pack.
